I ended up checking out Natchez. It definitely has a ton of neat older homes and a quaint downtown area. There are good views of the river and the bridge. I took a few pictures of Natchez.

I have been to Vicksburg before and may visit again in the future when travelling through the area.

Absolutely Natchez if you have to choose. I have been to both and for me Vicksburg is a one time deal. Natchez I could return again and again.

This really isnt true. Farragut captured Natchez pretty early in the war. If, one is truely interested in Civil War History Natchez cant be compared to Vicksburg at all. The siege Vicksburg was one of the most important events of the War.

The good news is that since Natchez was occupied and not really fought for, the northern agressors didnt destroy everything in their path like they did in most places in the state they came across. War Criminals...

Thus, you have a lot of great homes to see...i like the downtown area too.

Whenever I want a break from Jackson and don't want to travel too far, I usually go to Vicksburg. I like to go to the bluffs and look at the river and then go to Ameristar and lose my hard earned money. I also like to visit the military park. Parts of downtown Vicksburg has a New Orleans feel because of its architecture. If you want to shop, there is Pemberton Sqaure Mall and there is also an outlet mall accessible from I-20.

I have only been to Natchez once and I thought that it was a beautiful town. There are a lot of antebellum homes there with tours throughout the year.

Wherever you decide to go, I hope that you will enjoy your visit.

I like both, but had to make a choice. Natchez has a neat downtown and neat older homes, but I remember Vicksburg fondly ten years ago. Vicksburg has a lot of Civil War history to it and is also a unique city. I will make a point to visit both in the future when travelling in the region in the future, which may be a few years down the road.
