smoking laws in Jackson
I am moving to Jackson and am a smoker. I was told that you cannot smoke in outdoor seating at a restaurant there. Is this true? I currently live in Florida and while you can't smoke inside a restaurant, in most cases you are allowed to smoke to smoke in the outdoor seating section. Can someone set me straight on this? Thanks.

Since I have received no responses am I to believe there are no smokers in Jackson? I really never would have perceived it to be the health nut capitol of the country. Santa Fe New Mexico has such laws but it is a very new age place. I am not defending the stupidity of smoking, just would like an answer.

Yes you can smoke anywhere in the city of Jackson except on hospital premises. Majority of all restaurants and bars here allow you to smoke. Outside the city (Clinton, Ridgeland, etc) is another story. We have plenty of smokers here (I'm not one) so you will blend right in with that crowd.

You've caught Jackson at an odd, awkward time regarding smoking laws. It was put into law, but then delayed, then they said no to the delay... yada, yada, yada... and now it is in effect, but only for establishments that produce 25% or more of their profit from food sales, yet it's not clear on indoor/outdoor seating, or so that is what the restaurant owners are claiming.

Thanks for the info. I agree, it is confusing and apparently business owners feel the same way. In addition to that, it seems that no one knows who is supposed to enforce it, which would leave me to guess that perhaps no one is.
