Default Elementary Schools in Starkville MS

I am considering a job with the university and have an eight year old, third grader. What is your opinion of the public schools in Starkville? It looks as if the closest Catholic School is in Columbus; is that correct?

There are private schools in Starkville, but no Catholic schools that I'm aware of. The Starkville Academy and Starkville Christian School are two that I know of. One of our neighbors sends their kids to Starkville Academy. Another neighbor, who also works at MSU, sends their kids to public school and think they are getting a good education. Although MS ranks at the bottom of the states for education, I've heard that Starkville School District (SSD) is pretty good. If you're considering sending your child to the public school, make sure where you live is inside the SSD because I've heard the county schools are terrible due to lack of funding. Good luck!

Mrs. Sippy:

You speak the truth :-) My DW student-taught in Starkville and Ackerman, and let's just say there's a reason two of my DD's will be at Starkville Christian School next year (one third grade, the other in K-4). Starkville's public schools are way better than the county schools (which struggle to rise above "underperforming"), but the private ones tend to beat SSD.
