How often does snow occur in Southern Mississippi?
Were I currently live snow occurs on average once every 10 years and I was wondering how often snow occurs in Southern Mississippi. Particularily the Wiggins area. Thank you for your help.

I remember two, maybe three events this decade where southern Mississippi (not the coast, more like the US-84 corridor) received measurable snow. There was snow in December down that way, but I don't know how far south it went.

I could count on one hand in decades. When it does snow, it is gone within the day and it is what we in the north referred to as an "onion" snow.

I live on the Coast, and I would say that about once every 10 years or so, it will actually stick for a little while. In Wiggins, it may stick a little more than in Gulfport, but not much. Usually snow can make it as far south as Hattiesburg before just fizzling out.

It snows, but it tends to not stick.

What about ice storms? Does the area stretching from Waveland on over to about Pascagoula ever see ice storms, or do you have to get further north for that?

Ice storms on the Gulf Coast? Heck, lived in Mississippi all my life (over 50 years), until a few months ago, and I cannot recall one instance of an ice storm on the coast. Hail, maybe, from severe weather, but never ice. I do remember a couple of times there were some freak snow flurries but it melted before it even touched ground. Hope this helps with your inquiry, drummer.

We had icestorms in central MS along I-20 when I lived up there, but I've yet to see one down here along I-10. The last major ice storm I went through was winter 88-89 (I forget exactly when it happened) when I was in Vicksburg.
If you're on the coast, you don't have to worry about ice or snow much at all. Spend your money on hurricane supplies.
