Favorite: Cost of living, but that doesn't mean much if your wages are low as well. If I came across a large sum of money or if I have saved up a large amount of money, then I'd be able to stretch it further here.

Least favorite: It was originally a cross between the extraverted culture and the climate. However, climate wins this round because I can ignore people, but I can't ignore the humidity.

Faves:

People. Polite, courteous for the most part
Weather: not too much cold in the winter, lots of rain in spring means...
GREEN. I love the green. I hate too many cloudy days in a row but I love when the weather gets just right this time of year and the entire world seems to glow a lush green.
Government: pretty much free to do what we want, not lots of stupid zoning laws and codes and begging permission.

Dislikes:
People: too cliquish at times
Weather: too freaking hot late in summer, everything ends up looking brown and dead.
Government: too much church influence, ridiculous blue laws and so forth run counter to that independant, do as you like sensibility.

So far as lack of diversity, y'all must not be getting out enough. I live 60 miles from Starkville and there's a LOT of asians in Starkville and a fast growing latino community closer to where I live. Not many mideasterners, greeks or jews, butquite a lot of chinese, vietnamese, korean and mexicans. The one thing I miss most about LA are the colorful painted buildings and murals from my old neighborhood near Echo Park. I look forward to seeing more of that around here as that growing latino community starts opening more storefront businesses of their own.

Different ethnicities as in more than one race besides African American. Ex: Asians, Hispanics, Europeans, and so on.

I live in the Jackson metro area and really do not see a whole lot of different ethnicites.

It might be a different story though in other parts of the state. Idk.

I wouldn't quite call these figures "tons".
It may just be in the eye of the beholder.

Races in Southaven:

* White Non-Hispanic (89.3%)
* Black (6.7%)
* Hispanic (2.3%)
* Other race (1.1%)
* Two or more races (0.8%)
* American Indian (0.6%)

Lived in Jackson a year after Katrina.

Likes
-Nice scenery (It's pretty green even in the urban areas, lots of trees and space).
-The air is cleaner.
-The redevelopment in Jackson is amazing. (The place will look great in a few years).
-Traffic is a breeze.
-BBQ (Way better than anything we have in SE LA).
-Cooler and less humid in the summer than NOLA.

Dislikes
-Lack of diversity (It's pretty much white and black with the occasional hispanic who will more than likely be Mexican).
-People seemed to be afraid of anything they weren't used to.
-Slow and/or Annoying drivers.
-Limited choices of everthing.
-Everything closes early and most banks don't open on weekend
-Segregated (It was amazing how seperated everything is from race to class to social status. It's like everyone has a set place. Blacks live here, whites live there, haves live up here, have-nots live down here, and middle class lives over there.)
-Too many taboos (don't say this..., don't do _____ in front of..., _____ is disrepectful).
