Can you teach at a private high school in Jackson, MS with a Master's degree but without a teaching certificate???

I know some states allow you to teach classes and coach sports at certain private high schools without a teaching certificate, is Mississippi one of them??

Thanks

You used to need MPSA (MS Private School Assn) certification-that was basically automatic if you had a state teaching license. Im not sure what the procedure is now.You might contact the principal of the school where you are interested in teaching.

Yes, though this may vary by individual private school. I've had lots of friends who taught private high school without a license. Private schools generally will look much more fondly upon a master's degree in your subject area than an education degree, too.

You can also apply for a temporary license and teach at public school in MS. They call it the "alternate route," or something, and you have to take a Saturday class once a month and pass the Praxis.

LOL from what I've seen from some private schools around the state you could probably teach English or Social Studies AND maybe coach or teach gym. Friend of mine has no degree at all and substitute teaches elementary at a private school.
