Default Property taxes and insurance questions in Gulfport

My husband and I will be relocating to the Gulfport area within the next year or so. We are looking to buy something within the $150,000-$160,000 price range and also above I-10. It has to be within a 30 minute driving time from the Navy Seabee base. We have no children so schools are not a problem but we don't want a crime stricken area either. What are the best areas to look? Also, we would like to know what the average property taxes and insurance run in those areas above I-10?

Any help would be great!

I had a 180k house built in Gport, north of 1-10, and the taxes would have been around $100.00 per month, and insurance around $300.00 per month. Please check out insurance rates carefully, as they vary so widely. This house was a newly built brick home and was about 10 miles from the water. Once I found out the insurance cost, and added it into the mortgage equation, I could no longer afford the house and it was ultimately sold to someone else. You will find that quotes will be wildly different from place to place, so it really pays to shop around. I've heard of some people paying upwards of $4000-$5000 a year and their 20 miles inland. Go Figure?
Keep in mind this was the end of 2007, so things may have improved.
