working in Collierville, TN where to look to live in MS?
My spouse will be working in Collierville, TN (close to new area actually just about 4 miles from MS line) soon. 21 plus years ago I lived in Hernando for a short time after college so I am somewhat familiar with the area. Longtime MS resident as a child otherwise, so am used to MS. Went to visit Memphis last week and boy, it seems like a lot has changed! When I worked in Memphis I worked at Hickory Ridge Mall which was in a great area and now hear that it is closed and one of the worst parts of town. So, throw everything out the window that I know about Memphis. What is a good "family" town on the MS side? I actually considered renting a house or apt. in Collierville till I pulled up photos & rent online and decided it was waaaaayyyy out of our budget for sure. I'd like a rental house over an apt. but found some apt.'s in Horn Lake that look more like single family homes & are really duplexes. Looks good online with good prices, but not sure if they are. Anyhow, I am overwhelmed with where to look. Drove home through Barton, MS & Byhalia and that part of Byhalia looked pretty discouraging. Barton looked nice but I imagine is expensive or few rentals as small as it was. Can anyone recommend areas to look and if so where? Definately want somewhere my child has no problem being able to play outside, meet other kids easily & safe, etc. Thanks for any info.

Olive Branch would be closer than Southaven or Horn Lake. I have no idea about renting though.

Horn Lake has gotten pretty trashy and the property values have gone down too, from what I have heard, plus it's pretty far from where your hubby works. Collierville is close to Olive Branch and again, from what I know, it's a pretty nice place to live too. Actually Collierville and Piperton are pretty nice. I have several friends in Collierville. I live in Hernando and love it here but it is a trek to Collierville, about 45 minutes the back way. Your right, Byhalia has become questionable as well. I grew up in Memphis and yes maam, it has really changed! Unfortunately we are all pretty close to Memphis and the crime is trickling down to all the surrounding areas. Good luck to ya....

We recently moved to Olive Branch. We definitely feel safe in our neighborhood. I'm unsure of your price range, but there are a couple of nice homes for rent in our area. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about our area.

You might have better luck in the Memphis forum in TN of this site (plus it has, ehem, more even handed moderation) - but why don't you simply move to Collierville?
Its going to be a toss up - TN side - no income tax, higher property tax and cost. MS - cheaper housing but you pay the income tax.
If you stay in TN make sure you pick a community, an incorporated town, that won't get gobbled up by the City of Memphis so it doesn't turn into a "Hickory Hood" situation. Collierville, Germantown, a few others are safe bets, or you can move over to the next county to the east. In MS Olive Branch is a good deal. Horn Lake and even Southhaven is too far and an unessesary distance.

sandalwood - you can get a nice Olive Branch rental home (3br, 2ba) starting around $900 per month. You could look on the online version of the Memphis newspaper (The Commercial Appeal). They have MS properties or you could contact a real estate company. Let me know if I can help.
