About Greenwood MS
Hi Folks,
It feels good to be on this Forum.I'm a French teacher from France.I'd be coming back to teach in Greenwood High School soon. Before going back to France, I taught French in South Carolina, still in the south .
My question is, does anyone here know Greenwood? How is life over there, are there good apartments, can one get a good car, say a Toyota or a Honda, or any other second hand car for about $3000? How much will a typical, good looking one- or two-bedroom apartment cost? How about the school itself(GHS).Is it a good one?
I'd be glad to read from y'all

Teaching in Greenwood
Teaching at Greenwood High is, as I'm sure you've found by now, a long way from teaching in SC. Welcome to the Mississippi Delta.

Greenwood is beautiful but dying Southern cotton town. It's got some nice neighborhoods where you can live for very cheap. The downtown is up and coming. There are a few great restaurants. The people are wonderful and like to have fun. However, the majority in the town are very poor, though there is still a lot of old money left there. The public schools are bad, but they need all the help they can get. Teach for America teachers (young and very bright college grads going into business, law, politics who agree to teach for two years before they begin their careers) teach there.
