Local Family friendly / camping / activities in Northern Miss?
We are a family of 4 (with teenagers) that just moved to Hernando, Miss. and enjoy camping in our motorhome. However, with the cost of fuel, we are limited in how far we can now travel.
Can anyone provide info. on activities for a RV'ing family to do in NORTHERN Miss?
I understand Little Rock AR / Hot Springs AR (2-1/2 to 3-hour drive) has an abundance of camping and family activities, but we were hoping to find something closer to home for a quick weekend trip to keep costs down.
Looking to drive maybe 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
Can anyone make any suggestions? Nice clean campgrounds? Waterparks?
The kids & hubbie also ride dirt bikes - so any suggestions in that regard would be welcomed as well.
Thank you for your help!!!

Right off the top of my head, I would say Enid Lake. I used to camp there and it was very nice when I was there. It is a little south of Sardis. If I think of other places, I will post them too.

Natchez Trace State Park between Tupelo and Pontotoc just off Hwy 6 has a nice campground, lake, horse trails and dirt bike trails. It is a very pretty area and we live less than 20 minutes from it and have booked cabins for a small getaway before, fished there so many times, and it is clean, family friendly. Just no water park there.

I wonder if there is a water park along the River? That might be something to check out as well.

THANK YOU! for this reply. This is the exact info. I was looking for, particularly the dirt bike trails. Do you know if they are WITHIN the State Park or if they are independent of the park? Any info you could provide on this would be much appreciated. We moved to a rural area with 2.5 acres but we haven't been able to find a place to ride. The kids left a very safe and easily accessible area to ride back home. I do appreciate your response. I'll check on the state park website. Maybe there is info there too. Thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I will definitely look into the campground in Enid. Being new to the area, I am trying not to waste time with just trying different campground out. I'd rather rely on info. such as this. THANK YOU for your reply.

I just checked with my son and with my brother in law on the trails...they said the trails are inside the park. There are lots of them, the cost is $5.00 per bike to ride. You must have a helmet to be able to ride. The trails are for dirt bikes and 4-wheelers.
The actual name of the park is Trace State Park I apologize....the natchez should be dropped.

We are in the same position, potentially relocating to the Memphis area. We camp and ride dirtbikes as well, I've done some research to find out where the good trail riding places are located - that is what my 6 yr old is most interested in.
If you go to the thumpertalk.com website, there is an area under forums that lists the riding areas and mx tracks by state. There is a place in western Kentucky called land between the lakes that looks and sounds awesome for family camping, fishing and riding dirt bikes. Looks like it is an hour or so north of memphis.
Take care.

Area State parks
Tishomingo State Park is beautiful, near Tishomingo and Iuka area.
Trace State Park, between Tupelo and Pontotoc, has dirt bike trails.
