I read some articles online that there were some people who want to ban the teaching of fractions in the state of Mississippi. I want to know is it true, and if so, could it be because of religious and/or other educational reasons.

Have fun and faith in God.

Yes, its true. In the great state of MISSISSIPPI, we have started using the metric system and no longer use fractions.
Will illinois ever catch up?

Hello Grasshopper. Since the last time you posted, a lot of things has happened to me. Where should I start? My master has finally set me free and I have moved off of the plantation. I bought my first pair of shoes and I'm beginning to read and write. I haven't found love yet, but maybe I can hook up with one of my relatives. Since you are constantly asking us about the state of our living conditions and what not in MS, I will continue to give you and update. As for the rest of the Mississippians, they are just now beginning to get electricity, running water and indoor plumbing.
