I was wondering if anyone could give me the scoop on Natchez. A friend of mine got a job offer there and neither of us has ever been. Does it have a nice downtown, etc? Any help would be much appreciated.

Natchez's glory days were before the Civil War. Other than having a lot of cool old antebellum homes (many not in such great shape any more), Natchez is mostly a dirty old river town, not much impressive. The downtown is dying like most traditional old downtowns.

Anyone else, possibly with a.. more positive opinion? That doesn't sound too appealing.

No more responses because it is what is, can't sugar coat it or make it something it's not.

I was in Natchez 2 summers ago, in July. Much of it is pretty grim but the downtown around the convention center and the new Corcoran hotel is a happening place. It was so booked up we couldn't even get a room.

had some great times as a young boy. Since my grandparents passed away, not much togetherness anymore.

I was born in Natchez, but moved away as a young infant. My Mom's side of the family all lived there, including my Grandparents. As kids, we spent a good bit of our summers there. When I visit now, as an adult, I find myself appreciating so much more of Natchez. Downtown is quiet, but Under the Hill has good restaurants & bars. It is just a few hours from New Orleans & Baton Rouge, so you could visit those places easily.
