I am about to make the move. Like in a few days. Sudden job hire. Anyways, I will be working in Southaven. I am a 24 year old male, single. Looking for information on where to live? I've lived in Chicago and London for periods of time before. I'd like to be able to meet people and go out but also safety is a concern - especially as I read this more. Where would be the best place to live in all your opinions? Is Memphis more of a city where you drive to the hotspots, so where you live matters less anyways? Or is it nice to be in certain parts? Or should I live in Southaven or Horn Lake? Any apartments? Hamilton? Grocery stores and movie theaters. Restaurants? Just trying to decide if living in Miss or Memphis is the right choice. Any suggestions, help, advice, answers will be much appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Let's hit some of your questions:
Shaven or HL? Southaven all the way. I lived in Church Lake apts right after moving to the area. I had family live in the apts. just south of there while they were between houses.
Grocery stores? Kroger, Schnucks, Wal-Mart or Piggly Wiggly. You will have to go to Memphis for more variety.
Movies? Malco, Malco or Malco. Memphis is the HQ for Malco Theaters. They are very nice. Almost as nice as the one in my house.
Restaurants? The usual chain places. Huey's for burgers. Avellino's for pizza and Italian. The Boiling Pointe for sea food and cajun. Memphis has a much larger selction.

As I mentioned in your Memphis thread, I think it would be better to live near your work. But if you are a go out every night person, then Memphis is better for you. Huey's has a band on Sunday nights. I think the Boiling Pointe has one a Saturday night.

Downtown Memphis, Midtown Memphis, and Harbor Town/Mud Island are probably your best bets if you are considering any remote comparison to a Chicago or London, in terms of urban atmosphere. Southaven is nice and looks like a fairly typical suburb with stores and subdivisions. In Midtown Memphis, the Evergreen and Central Gardens historic districts are reasonably safe and full of apartments. Downtown Memphis is a lively area. Mud Island is very safe and arguably the nicest place to live in Memphis due to its location right on the Mississippi river.
