I am from Jackson. The Hilton and the Hamptons are very nice. Locally owned hotels seem to be inadequately operated. By chance, was your son playing against St. Andrews? I played golf with a friend the other day, who mentioned that his old high school, St. Andrews, was playing in the state tournament.

My son plays for East Union. They played Richton. I forgot who played St Andrews, maybe Nettleton? |

Several years ago I worked for a law firm in downtown Jxn. The area is nice around the capitol and the Governor's mansion. I am sure they offer tours. If you visit, do not cross Gallatin St. Your chances of survival decrease considerably if you do. Overall, downtown Jackson is nice with a lot of potential for improvement. I have seen plans in the newspaper to improve and rebuild parts of the downtown area, but nothing thus far. The Mayflower is one of my favorite restaurants - it's on West Capitol St. and is one of the oldest family restaurants in the city.

What I did today in Gulfport --
I slept in till 10:30 am, when my brother woke me up and asked me to go to the beach with him. We went down and laid out for an hour or so, then went for lunch at a deli place. We fetched our kite, went back to the beach, and stayed till 4pm flying the kite. We visited New Orleans yesterday and got beignets at Cafe du Monde, and we'll probably go out to Ship Island sometime this weekend. ![]() |

Thank you for this information. Several years ago, I was in Jackson and ate at this restaurant that was somewhere close to the capitol and was located in a renovated meat packing plant, and it had different levels inside, do you know if this restaurant still exists? if so, what is the name of it....I loved that place.

You can get good info from: http://www.msshipisland.com/
For a place to eat, try Cajun Crawfish Shack in Long Beach! It's a little hole-in-the-wall place, but I love it. Best fried gator you can eat. Yum! ![]() |

I think you are talking about the Iron Horse Grill (Southwestern/Mexican and Misc. food). And no, it shut down as a result of burning several times. It was located between Pearl St. and Capitol St., on Gallatin St. if I remember correctly.

If you are coming to the Coast, I would be sure to take him fishing on the beach front. Buy a fishing license at Wal-mart for saltwater only, it is 5.00. There are also some car races that take place off of I-10 at Menge Ave. exit, alot of teenage boys like the races. You can call the Harrison County Police Dept.(228-865-7060) and get the name of the track. There has been a few things going on at the Harrison County Fairgrounds also such as Rodeos, Horse shows and etc. you might want to see if anything is going on when you come. There is a new water park on Canal Road also. My kids are younger 7 and 6 they love the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center! I have not been back yet since the reopening but it is located off of Hwy.90 in Gulfport close to Teagarden Road it was 7.00 each but I saw a sign that they were having free Friday evenings. They did have a nice oak shaded area behind them with tables you could bring a picnic lunch to while the kids played in the different treehouses and they have different activities daily. |

Oh! Just found this out today. If you visit a Subway restaurant, pick up one of their coupons for $8 off 2 Ship Island Ferry tickets.
