I am considering applying for a job in Marks but I don't know much of anything about the area. I know it is about an hour south of Memphis and I have spent a lot of time in Tennessee and Arkansas but I am afraid I just don't know much about the great state of Mississippi.

I have two daughters in elementary school and I'd just basically like to hear what the town is like, how the crime (if any) is, whether there are any family activities there, if it is possible to find a rental house, and so on.

I understand it is a very small town. That's okay by us. I do not know what the job pays ("salary commensurate with qualifications") but it is with the library there.

I really appreciate any information, thoughts, advice, etc.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

I know its real small and is the county seat of Quitman county. I wouldnt imagine the library being very big. Its near to the casinos over in Tunica. I dont think i would want to be a teenager there. Alot of cotton and catfish!

To be honest, Marks is not very nice. Very poor and very small. Frankly I'm a little surprised it has a library. Batesville is about 20 minutes away and is much larger and nicer, basically a regular small town with a Wal-Mart, several industries, okay schools, etc. Much, much nicer is Oxford, a beautiful area and college town, which is a good 45 minutes away. If it were I, I would get satellite radio and make the drive to Oxford each day. It's worth it. But Batesville would be acceptable.

Brickpatio is right. You don't want to live in Marks as it would be much better to live in Batesville. Marks is very poor and run down, and it would be hard to find any activities, let alone family activities.
