My Husband and I are moving to Mississippi. We have never been there before and really don't know alot about it. His job is ending here in Florida and we have to move there in order for him to keep his job. We have a choice between Webster Co. (Europa) and Leake Co. (Carthage). We currently live in Florida in a small town. This is a hard choice to make not knowing anything about either two except for what I have read on the internet. Please, can you share some insite for me between the two. It would be much appericated.

Eupora is a Mayberry-like, very safe, very small town with a small main street and a couple of charming residential streets. There is a small lake in town, a baseball field, and a grocery store. The schools in Webster County actually rate pretty well. Luckily, they are just 25 minutes from Starkville, a nice and buzzing college town with plenty of stores, restaurants, sporting events, etc. To me one could have a nice life either living in the country in Webster County or living in town in growing and increasingly very liveable Starkville.

With Carthage, I've driven through before and didn't find it particularly charming. The best reason in my opinion to choose this work location would be either to live about 35 minutes down hwy 25 at the outskirts of Flowood and the Barnett Reservoir, a booming suburban area outside Jackson...which is safe, with good schools, growing, etc, etc......or for the small town life live in Kosciusko, about 25 minutes north of Carthage, which is actually a very nice small town of about 7,000 people with a beautiful town square, nice contemporary residential areas, nice countryside and excellent schools. Living there would have you about an hour down the Natchez Trace to get to Jackson when wanting to get into the city.

I agree with brickpatio. I like Eupora better. It's quaint and safe. Schools aren't bad. If you're looking for a mall or major shopping nearby, you won't find it. Starkville has the most to offer (WalMart, Lowes, boutiques downtown), but there's no mall or anything like that. This would not necessarily deter me, but if you're used to living near a BIG city, it could be a negative.

Carthage is fairly close to Jackson so if you're into the shopping . . . . I don't particularly like Carthage. The last time I was there (several years ago), there wasn't that much going on. It seemed run down, but like I said, I haven't been there recently.

Kosciusko (Kozzy-es-ko is how I always heard it pronounced) is a nice town. I like it a lot. Clean, convenient, and good schools. There's some shopping too.

Eupora is not the place to move. It has nothing but woods and years ago devil worshipers. I know this for a fact. I was a social worker and had clients from there. I saw nothing but woods and hillbillies. Please reconsider this place. Move to the other place.

I lived not 20 minutes from Eupora for many, many years and never heard anything about devil worshipers. I'm not saying it's not true, but I never heard anything about it. The folks I met from Eupora were very friendly and were Protestants, which is primarily what you find in Mississippi or anywhere in the south.

If you like small towns, I would choose Carthage and maybe live in Kosciusko. We always drove down HWY 35 to Hwy 25 to get to the Reservoir when we lived in Kosciusko. It took an hour. If you have kids in school, the ones in Kosciusko are pretty good too. My dd lives there so if you need more info sent me a PM.

I also agree with brickpatio. Also, if you choose Leake County, I would also look at Philadelphia. They have a population of roughly 7k, but there seems to be more to do there since there are the casinos, a water park, more entertainment, etc. It's also a nice location with regard to Jackson, Meridian, Starkville and Birmingham, AL.
