Everyone I know who goes to the casinos here go for one of three reasons. To win money, to get drunk, or they're addicted.

No one in their right mind thinks they are going to the casino to "win." Casinos are adult arcades, that's it. I can spend 25 or 30 bucks at the movies watching a single film while drinking a paper cup of syrup and munching on shredded cardboard, I can blow 75 or more on a stupid sports event where I get to wear someone else's paper cup of syrup, or I can blow fifty bucks on an evening of entertainment that includes ample light, gambling, drinks, live music, and the freedom to move around and interact with others in a manner that does not constitute assault in any other setting.

BTW, I am not, under ANY circumstances, going to pay 40 bucks or mroe to go see a movie in a theatre that doesn't offer me more than I can get at home. I don't care about dinner nor do I want to listen to everyone around me scraping forks and chewing cud. I want a theatre with ample, comfy chairs, a place to sit a drink, and a LARGE screen with state of the art projection. Where I am I can be in Jackson in 60 minutes or so and I get to RISK a drive through Madison, speed trap center of the south - or I can be in Memphis in about 75 minutes where I can see Avatar on a giant screen in 3D. Where do you think my money is gonna go?

Maybe I shouldn't have said that they were "under the impression" of winning money. But "under the delusion" that they will win money and all the excitement that comes with it. I know of a lady that carries charms in her bra and lights candles before she hits the slots, because "I know I'm gonna hit and win today!"

I made the mistake of "feeling lucky" when I went home and went to the casino since it was the New Year and all, and promptly lost $60. So much for that, LOL.

Also, LMAO @ "scraping forks and chewing cud" Am I the only one annoyed at people slurping drinks in the theater?

It's a trade-off. It's unhealthy for those who go repeatedly, but it is guaranteed that people will come from anywhere imaginable just to gamble.

What part of "in their right mind" isn't clear?

Don't pretend that's a large part of the population. I don't know everyone in town but I know quite a few people, no one expects to get rich at the casino. It's adult entertainment without the the X's.

No one EXPECTS to get rich at the casino, but they go because there is a CHANCE they could get rich, or at least walk out with more than they went in with. Do you really think that if there was no chance to win money at the casino, just drop your money into a slot machine or on the poker table with NO chance to win that people would go?
