I thought a while back I saw news coverage or read something about a Macys planned for north of Madison or something. Do anyone know anything about this?

I've never read about Macy's in Madison. There was supposed to be a shopping center with a Belk, Target, World Market, TGIFridays and other stores planned out there, but then the financial crisis happened. Plus, the Reunion Parkway (or whatever it was supposed to be called) may not be built, so that could hurt their development plans, as well.

There were rumors that Macy's was supposed to come to Flowood. I read it in the Clarion Ledger when Flowood passed their liquor tax. Apparently, Macy's would not come unless fine dining restaurants were within the vicinity.

Personally, I would love to see all these stores in a new development in Jackson, especially Macys, World Market and the Fridays. I think Macy's would be good for the Eastover Development if we ever get that off the ground.

I would also love to see a few other high-price stores in the area and not finding myself at some other cities "Galleria" shopping mall.

I agree, which is why I want Eastover to happen. I saw the plans for the development and it looks greats. High rises, urban and underground parking. I think A Macys, Pottery Barn and other high end stores would work great there. I also think an area near Fondren could use some mixed use shopping and dining as well. I just don't want Madison, Flowood and Ridgeland getting all the shops that should be in Jackson.

I read in the business section of the clarion ledger (online) that the Dick's Sporting Goods, Best Buy, Steinmart, and Corner Bakery Cafe were about to begin construction over by the movie theatre, so sounds like at least a few things are beginning to get cranked up again.

I saw that. I wish we could get a Corner Bakery and Dicks in Jackson proper. I think Downtown would be a great place for Corner Bakery. While I guess I'm happy for Madison *rolls eyes*, I wish a more urban version of this development could have happened in Jackson. I think the Meadowbrook area is just asking for an urban environment of big box stores, restaurants and local businesses.

I've known about the new development in Madison for a while now. They've been trying to get that deal worked out for years now, and I'm glad it's finally going to happen. It's good to see more things happening here locally - with the King Edward opening, this development getting started back up, and both the Standard Life building and Farish Street in the middle of renovation. I hope the rest of the nation sees how quickly we can bounce back from the recession.

I think the most likely place for a Macy's in Mississippi is in Biloxi/Gulfport, barring the Macy's company purchasing a southern department store chain such as Belk. (A few years ago, they went pretty crazy and bought several department store chains...one of which was Kaufmann's, and I got to experience first hand the changeover in PA. It was strange seeing a macy's in some of the small malls in the middle of nowhere lol)

Out of curiosity, why do you think Biloxi would be more appropriate than Jackson?

It just seems like there is a lot more money and growth/potential money in Biloxi/Gulfport than Jackson, which is in general decline.
