I liked Rosey Baby's too! Funny. Nah, I ate at Old Venice after visiting Little Italy in Boston. Ruined it for me. Of course, I can't eat imported pineapples after having fresh ones in Honduras, so you see authentic food ruins the rest for me. hahaha! I will say that lunch menus are inevitably better priced than dinner menus. I'm not into the "hip" college places. Didn't like them when I was in college, and I really don't like them now so the OP will have to take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

Don't forget that Starkville has a population of 22,000.

If you're looking for world-class cuisine that cost just 20 pesos, then you won't find it there (or anywhere else for that matter).

All of the places that posters have listed in this thread are well worth trying out. The OP will have to try them out to make his/her own assessment.

Default Harvey's in Starkville

Yeah I like Harvey's in Starkville, too. Food is delicious. I often come there with my close friend

Restraunt Tyler is probably one of the nicer places to eat in Starkville along with the Veranda, someone mentioned Does and it has shutdown, I wouldn't recomend Bulldog Deli I mean its nothing special, Strombolis is a pretty good Pizza place, Rosey Baby is actually open unless it has shut down in the past month however with that being said besides the free beer whenever a three point is made the food sucks, all in all Starkville is not a great place to go for it's cuisine but if your there go to some of the ones mentioned above when are you coming down.

I'll chime in, even though it's been over 10 years since I've spent more than a few hours in Starkville.

Best burger joint is definitely Christy's on 12. Someone said they'd gone downhill... HOW? The place was a dump 15 years ago. We'd make a point of taking visitors there just to freak them out. But they made a d*** good hamburger.

BBQ... Petty's vs. Little Doey's... LD's had the more consistent product. Their pulled pork was always tender and cooked perfectly. But Petty's was just better. You might get a tough strip of meat in your pulled-pork sandwich, but it was a good-tasting tough strip of meat. Sauce was better, fries were better, beans were better, everything. Back then it was just a shack on the side of the road with a smoker out back. No tables, no awning, no chairs. You just ordered at the window, sat in your car until the food was ready, got it and left. The same shack is still there, but they've expanded. Now they've got this fancy covered deck with ceiling fans, radiant heaters, and picnic tables. The ambiance is ruined, but the food is still good as of last fall.

Steak... the second best steak I've ever eaten was at some place in Columbus, I think on 45, and I can't for the life of me remember the name. It may not exist anymore. You walked right by this HUGE charcoal grill as you walked in the door. You could see the fat dripping off thick steaks and hear the sizzle. The menu consisted of a few cuts of steak.... and that's it. It was a STEAK house. You got a "salad" (tiny bowl of shredded iceberg with a couple of cherry tomatoes and a sprinkle of cheese; the dressing was in open bowls that were passed from table to table), a baked potato, bread, and the best tasting chunk of beef in the state of Mississippi.

I also forgot to mention Cappe's, its off of Highway 12 behind Bops and that Mexican place, right across the Street from where Wasson's was, it kind of reminds me of the Steak place that Jwkilgore mentioned above me, it is not the greatest steak but it is pretty good, they also have a pretty good lunch if you go on the right day.

There were times when I'd get my meat from LD and then pick up the sides from Petty's. It's a tough call but if I had to recommend only one to someone who isn't familar with both of them, it would be LD. But that's mostly on it's name and legacy. Plus the Woods family are all really sweet people.

But I would personally go to Petty's if I was in town tomorrow!

Of course! And whatr about that place out of town? It was out old 82, past the motorcycle shop on a road that went to the left. I forget the name of the place but it was in a couple of houses that had been repurposed into a barbq juke type joint. They had soem really great barbq, I've been meaning to check it out but I don't go to starkville as much as I used to.

I know where you're talking about, it's on 16 Section Rd - can't remember the name either. Great barbeque!

Oh duh! Google to the rescue! It's called Sonny's. Used to eat there often when I was working at the university. One of those places "full of character" as they say. Great eats.
