Hey all,

So I'm getting set up here in town and am looking for an honest, reasonably-priced mechanic to unclog my vents, do routine maintenance, etc. Any favorites out there? Anybody I should avoid? How do the prices around here compare to other places in the country?

Thanks, and hope everyone's having a decent Monday!

Ok, you lost me. Are you asking for a Mechanic, as in working on your car? Or are you talking about a Maintenance man to work on things in your house?

I'm not sure what type of vents need to be unclogged but if you don't want to hire a pro, don't hire some guy under the table. There could be a "nanny-gate" issue crop up and there is the issue of liability if the worker gets hurt. Hire through a temp agency if you want to manage the project or the work or hire a pro.
Beware of shysters. I hired a plumber in another town and they quoted me for an hourly rate, did the job and then padded the bill with a charge for the use of the power snake ! They also charged for time traveling from their shop when they were already in our town doing another job just before mine. I did manage to get them to lower the bill and they were pissed that they didn't get away with their little scam. I also had to help him a bit doing the job when he was goofing up.
If you want it done right ya have to do it yourself or at least supervise.

Hah, no! An auto mechanic! Annoying mice built nests somewhere up in the dashboard during my car's winter in MN, and I'd like to get them out at some point. Any recommendations?

The problem with mechanics out in town is that they work on engines, brakes, transmissions, rear-ends, and they don't get much chance to pull apart a dash.

You might check with a Body Shop as they get lots of practice rebuilding cars and can work on dashes.

Other then that, I'd recommend a dealer.
