Moving to Missoula, MT for a job. What are the best areas to live? Looking to rent a house that allows dogs.

Welcome to the forum.
Good luck because of the dog. We allow pets and smoking in our rentals but we don't have any in Missoula.
We do have a rental open in Conrad though and the wind farm employees who work for the company building the turbines going up near Shelby are hiring and the prison there is always hiring.
The rentals in Shelby seem to be all taken already I was told (except for the ones owned by price gouging landlords). Missoula is tough for employment and the housing costs are outrageous compared to the low wages that prevail. Good luck to you, ~♥~

What type of environment would you like? Downtown? Outlying? Rural?

Landlords vary widely on the 'pet' question. We once negotiated with one who was adamantly opposed to us bringing our dog because he was convinced that any dog would ruin his carpeting and chew the woodwork, etc. We offered to place a significant increase in security deposit and invited him to visit the place every week for as often as he wanted in order to allay his fears. He not only accepted our offer, after 3 or 4 weekly visits he became friendly with our Labrador and returned the increase portion of the Security Deposit.
Landlords have an investment to protect, and former tenants who were irresponsible pet owners cause them to be reluctant.

Please ask for more specifics so we can be more helpful.

Welcome to Montana!

Good Luck!

Craigslist Missoula will give you an idea of your rental options. Housing prices have stabilized here for the time being. As for dogs, well, most places seem to say they aren't allowed, but everyone and their auntie has a dog here in Mizoo... I suspect many have made arrangements like MG described. Do tell us what you prefer in a neighborhood & we'll help you out. Good luck to you on your move!
