Been kind of watching this form and frankly, I am appauled. I am handycapped and am on a fixed income. Half of what you are suggesting is more then I am stuck with.

40K is plenty and should afford you with a comforatble life. Can you buy a new car next year? No. But you can soon.

Create a job, or volunteer to work for nothing until you prove that you are worth it. Or...move to Ohio, they give everything away here!
How do you create a job? If everyone could do that there would be no such thing as unemployment or underemployment.

What you get in Acme, Wy might work there, but even $40k is still a bit on the low end in Missoula.

I had similar thoughts... basically "How can people spend that much money??"

I suppose it's easy if you get a $4000/month mortgage.

Yeah, I was trying to think the last time I made that much. hmmmmmm...... Been a few years. Let's say $20k a year and I'm comfortable. Happy with life. I don't need a new truck every year, I bought good furnature and it's lasting. What's the problem?

You bought furniture? I've never paid for a stick of it, and I've got two whole houses full, either inherited, gifted, got thru Freecycle, or picked up off the side of the road (got my nice solid oak dining table that way!) And most of it looks a lot richer than I do.

I'd like to remember making that much too...

That is just plain sad. $40K is a $20 an hour job. Who makes that kind of money? That's just stupid and if making $20 an hour is a requirement, it is not going to happen around here.

$40k is not considered a wealthy salary in most parts of the country.

No, you are absolutely right. But $20 an hour is a fairly good wage, no matter where you are. If it's not, then it's a problem with the economy of the area. Don't get me wrong, it's a good wage and one should be able to live comfortabley. Night not be a premium wage, but it is a respectable wage.

I am disabled and make considerably less then that, but I am comfortable.

ElkHunter.
What you or I consider "Comfortable", some might think otherwise. With age I prefer things to be simple. I don't need/want name brand, shiny, fancy nor new. I live in a small house that was built in 1910. My newest vehicle just turned 12 years old and the oldest turns 17. If it still works, why replace it?
The benefit package can also make that 40k worth more than just money. Health insurance, paid time off, retirement and so on. Just a thought is all.
