Default Is there a Music Scene and Art Scene in Missoula, MT?

OK its a "College Town", so yeah there something right? But what about the native scene? What genre of music is most popular. Any Punk Rockers running around? Is it Country-Western dominate?

Are there permanent artist living there? Are the art galleries and museums?

Oh and do you get big acts like lets say Foo Fighters that come and play in the city? Or is it to small of a town?

You will find an interesting art and music scene in MSO. MSO does an excellent job of supporting local music and art. Check out the Wilma, the Adams Center, The Top Hat and many other places for live music. As for a certain genre, people in MSO and the Bitterroot Valley are very diverse in their interests. You will find this reflected in the available radio stations, art exhibits, galleries and classes. Downtown MSO is really a neat place to experience.

As for your question on big time bands, yes they come here also. The Foo Fighters played here last year. The Missoulian quoted Dave Grohl after playing The Adam's Center, "If we knew it was this kick-a-, we would have been here 16 years ago."

Hope this helps you.

It does very much. Diversity in music is a good thing.

Go to this web site, which publishes concerts, art openings, theater, and other entertainment
in Montana, northern Idaho, and Spokane, Wa.
Lively Times is published out of Charlo, Montana, near Missoula.

Lively Times | Montana Arts and Entertainment Calendar, a complete statewide searchable database of music, concerts, events, theater, dance, recreation and art exhibits

In the LT Calendar pull down menu on the left side of the page, choose Missoula,
and it will bring up the press releases and articles on what is happening in arts
and entertainment.

Hope that helps.

No, country music does not dominate Missoula at all. The music here is, as others have said, pretty diverse. We get a lot of good blues-type music, and a lot of varieties of rock, folk, and even a little punk. Probably the only thing we're lacking in Missoula is a booming club scene, but if you're interested in "artsy stuff" that's probably not what you had in mind anyway.

Lots of art galleries. Lots of local artists. There is even a photography school of national renown and some active writer's workshops. For a city of it's size, I would give Missoula a very high rating for music and arts.

I'm thinking of starting a Goth-Folk-Punk Band someday. Who is in?

We read they played Missoula. Very cool. I see a good deal of mainstream bands do visit. The Wilma must be a nice venue.

That picture was taken at a recent Bay Area show. I live in California but own some dirt in the Swan which is where Iíll be retiring.

Some good acts come through Missoula though.
