Well good deal, guess I need to do some more looking. If anything I can get a better picture when I go to Missoula to test next month. State trooper job would be great, but I'd rather a county sheriffs job. Thanks all for the help, if I think of anything else I know where to go.

Interpol76's response is pretty much correct. The people who dislike Missoula tend to be right wingers. You can get the flavor of their thinking by just noting that some string words together like "enviro wackos, gays and...alians (sic)" as examples of who they consider undesireables. I used to live in Missoula, and it is a very nice place to live, especially if you enjoy open minded, diverse (for Montana) people.

Missoula is a wonderful place, and I'm sure both you and your family would be very happy there. I live about an hour north and am always on the lookout for job opportunities so that I can relocate there. A friend of mine just got hired with the PD and could not be more happy. From the perspective of one who has spent most her life in big cities, Missoula would probably be the right fit if you are looking for something smaller than Dallas. Any smaller and your family might have a hard time adjusting to rural Montana life. Missoula area schools are great, and the university provides a wealth of sporting and cultural activities. I come from a large extended family of avid outdoors people and several of them call Missoula home. Hunting, fishing, hiking, and skiing galore are literally at your doorstep. Don't let all the political talk turn you away from this great place! It just happens to be one of the more diverse places in Montana, which for some locals equals anti-Montana. For the more educated of us out here, it is what makes Missoula unique.
