Well for one thing Hannibal is hardly even a town. Another problem is its poverty is a little too high. I'd say build a gigantic statue of Mark Twain along Interstate 72 and U.S. 61 holding a sign saying welcome to Hannibal

I am not to far from there ..visited lots as a kid took my kids ........

Well at the time I wanted to leave my son to paint some fences the picket fences needed some white wash on them!! sorry Im as bad as the others!

What improvements? .. when we went there was a carnival going on ...so parking was hard. We stopped at the business place picked up some maps and tour info. Was a small town ... my husband actually mentioned about living there at one time..that I can not see ..
its a river town and we all know what the river gives the river can take away!

Question DeborahWade. My guess is that if you are not too far from Hannibal nor ST. Louis, and 1 hour from St. Louis in Illinois, you must live near Springfield, Illinois or Jacksonville, IL. Both are close by neighbors to St. Louis and Hannibal.

and our son graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas in 99...one thing he complained about was the lack of crosswalks on 61 in Hannibal...we haven't been to Hannibal much since my fil died in 01 except for my MIL's funeral in 04 but that was at the Catholic Church and she was buried at St. Pauls in Center and we stayed at the Hannibal Inn..so really weren't *in* Hannibal for that...so maybe crosswalks have been added and this is redundant
