Some rural place...
I was thinking about moving from St. Louis to a way more rural place. I was looking a Nixa too and wondering if it would be a good place to support me and maybe a family. Please help.

What kind of reasons do you have for moving away? I mean, what are you looking for as an ideal place? What kind of home costs are you wanting, what kind of shopping should be nearby? How small of a town do you want? I have been looking in several northwestern cities, but really it depends on how rural you want to get.

Moving because I've always hated living with a lot of people. My ideal place is a rural town with any amount of people, just as long as I can get an okay job. Shopping is not a big priority for me, but because I love to drive so I'll go as far as it takes. Home cost doesn't matter, as long as it's below 200K. Don't get me wrong, I like having people around, but not constantly near me.

Their is a portion of the Mark Twain National Forest in the southeast part of Christian County, which includes the cities of Ozark and Nixa. The Mark Twain National Forest also extends further south into portions of Taney and Stone counties.

Such as Springfield Skatepark ?
For listing of city/county parks, some that may offer skating &/or other opportunities of interest:

During our home search, DH & I went to Nixa. It's a nice little town. Appears to be economically healthy & growing. Lots of new subdivisions going up, yet still alot of rural properties as well. The nice part is that it still has that small town feel to it, yet is close enough to Springfield for major shopping & amenities.
Don't know much about the home prices, but they seem to be in the range you are looking. I say, go check it out. You can visit some of the surrounding areas while you're there.
Just consider the amount of commute time you might have for work. After a while, it might get old...not the mention the cost of gas.
Just my 2 cents. Sorry I wasn't much help.

Central Missouri is a great place to live too! The Boonville/New Franklin areas are small rural towns population 8,000/1,100 that are close to Columbia for a large job pool. I live in New Franklin and have worked in Columbia at the University for 28 years. It is just a 45 minute drive so not really that far. There are job opportunities in Boonville too just not a large selection. A casino and several factory type businesses mainly. Guess that would include office type work too. We have grocery stores, Walmart and retail type businesses. Columbia offers the major type shopping experience if you are into that. Also, entertainment options and just about any dining option you could want. Boonville has several restaurants and chain fast food options too. The schools are great....New Franklin has a AAA+ rating which is great for a small rural school. Boonville has good schools also. These are you typical small town communities. New Franklin has been called the "Mayberry" of Missouri by an employee of the Missouri Economic Development Manager working with the community.
