Joplin is one of several cities I am considering.

If I move to Joplin, I will need to get an apartment. I have a retail job which I can transfer with. But I cannot drive due to an eye condition. Joplin does have some sort of transit, using the Sunshine Lamp Trolleys I think. It is not great, but typical of a city of 50,000.

Since I will be using this service and walking, I pretty much have to live in Joplin itself. I know people on here like to point to areas north like Webb City, Carl Junction, and Carthage, but they would not be options for me.

So here are my questions,

What areas of Joplin should I avoid? If possible, give street names for boundaries (example: stay east of Main St)

What apartments would you recommend or not recommend? There doesn't appear to be a lot to choose from. I checked the Joplin newspaper online rental list, and it was not that long either.

Is an apartment vacancy hard to find in Joplin? Do MSSU students take them all up?

I'm just looking for some insight to determine if I should pursue Joplin further. Thanks for any help in advance.
