What Is Jefferson city really like?
I currently live in Tallahasse, Fl and I am planning to move up there around April '08. I would really appreciate some honest opinions. I moved to Tallahasse with only 1 prior visit. What a mistake! Tallahassee is primarily a town for students and upper class people. There is also a lot of racism towards caucasians here. I know there are problems every where you go, but I would really like to live in a place that you can go slow to let someone out in front of you when driving without getting the finger from the driver behind you.

Jeff City- You would think there woudl be a lot to do in the State Capitol, wouldn't you. Guess again. It is almost a ghost town when the legislature is not in session.
If you are interested in the immediate area, try Columbia. WAY more to do, and nicer.

Why Jeff City? Do you have a job lined up there? Or,,,?
Nice area, but as mentioned above, the city is not much of a 'city', per se.
Quiet, w/o the fixings of what you would find in Columbia, but,,, there are many opportunities to get and see and eat and partake of other opportunities - but, just depends upon what YOU want/like/desire. For example, you after city-type culture [concerts/arts/ect.] or outdoors [floating/biking/hiking/etc.], or combo thereof? Are you single, have kids, etc.?
Here are a few links to wet your appetite:

Jefferson City has got to be the most pathetic capital in the United States. It's one of the few that does not have an interstate highway running through them. I-70 and I-44 both came close to but avoided it upon seeing it for what it was...yes...roads have personalities and feelings too....oh would that be interesting now

lol, yea, I am sure that the founding citizens of Jeff City were thinking and concerned about how their little community would be in your eyes these many years later...
Seriously, does a state capital have to have an interstate, and/or be a bustling metropolis? If ya want more excitement, then just head to StL, KC, Columbia, or S'field.
Sorry, but IMHO, JC is nice little burg, which just so happens to be capital of our, whooops, of Missouri; nice rolling hills and being along the MO River, has a quaint charm to it - at least in that area.

I guess so, but still, I could never spend a day there, only a few hours before it's time to go to another area. Btw, I was in Springfield the other day, very nice area. A nice blend of Ozark, Dixie, the Plains and the Midwest I guess depending on your opinion, great city though whatever it is...i could be wrong about the culture, it struck me as being strongly Ozark/Dixie but also noticeably Midwestern in architecture and mixed in dialect I guess....just speaking from what I experienced hehe. Whatever it is, and I honestly don't care hehe, it beats jefferson city hehehe and it's a very nice area. If i had my way with Missouri, Columbia would be the capital, not JC

Personally, I love Jeff City -- the community is quiet--but can be fairly busy at times! And there are plenty of things to do that are close by when we take a notion!!
We've been up here five years -- and after forty years in the Springfield/Nixa area -- I wouldn't leave!

It's very nice. Super conservative. Not a lot of bars and night life. Pretty much shuts down by 10 pm. But...you are seriously a 30 minute drive from all that if you so desire. Yes, Columbia has all that, along with a much higher crime rate!

Good thing it is not up to you then huh!
JC don't have the crime that columbia has, it is easier to get around, The people are nicer (for the most part).
For people who like the quiet life JC is the place to live over columbia..And who are you to judge? you're from St.Louis.. the murder capitol of the united states.
