What about the surrounding towns? Like Web City, Carl Junction, or Carthage, are they any better or just the same?

The first time I drove around Joplin, I was not impressed. Seems dirty, run-down, and very blue collar to me. It has its nice areas like the "snob hill" area and also south of I-44 and probably some of the newer areas around the outskirts, but Joplin wasnt real easy on the eyes, overall. And neither were most of the people that I saw there.
Webb City is the same way. I havent been to Carl Junction.
Carthage is a nicer place than Joplin, but its smaller. Lots of nice older houses in that town.

I havent driven down every street in either place, but Carthage does have a lot of charming older houses south of downtown. I think the north side of Carthage was pretty much a dump though.

Carthage has a beautifull historic district of century old homes that are well restored. Other than that, I see it as nothing more than a spanish speaking political nightmare.
Joplin has some real crappy areas but I think that comes with the high crime rate. It has several very wealthy areas and a major boom in the retail market right now.

The funny part is that people who grew up in Webb City, Carl Junction and Webb City make a big deal about how they are "different". They are all the same. These people are still in their high school cliques, that is all that is different.

Yes, I do. That is what bugs me about the folks who say I do not know what I am talking about. The $$$ and some family issues are all that are keeping us here. If the family issues resolve, we will take less $$$ to live in a nicer place.
