What is up with all the out-of-state license plates?
Now maybe it is just me, but it seems like only in Missouri do you regularly see cars from many other states besides just Missouri. I see cars from at least 15 different states in Missouri everyday. Most I see come from other Midwestern states besides here (Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, and Ohio, Kansas). Other common ones I see are Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. But I see Alabama license plates, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Minnesota, Wisconsin, you name it I've seen it...I've seen many Ontario license plates, Texas....EVEN ALASKA for crying out loud ...only state I've never seen is Hawaii but i think were it attached to the North american continent I'd see it. Is it just Missouri being smack dab in the middle of the country, is it that many interstates converge here from all points of the country...or what? Go east to Indiana and Ohio and you primarily see license plates from Ohio. In Missouri you get as many out-of-state license plates as Missouri ones.....it seems like only in Missouri do you get to see every license plate from every state in a single year without having to travel even a mile Any thoughts folks?

ajf...I don't know about you kids in St. Louis, but down here in the deeps of the Ozarks, we see license plates from all over the US & Canada...it's Branson, baby! If you go to a show, they usually ask people to shout out where they're from...you'll hear almost every state...every time!
It's amazing...but with 8 million visitors last year...
I'm thinkin maybe Missouri is just THAT cool of a place to visit! I personally like to get over to your neck of the woods at least twice a year for the Muni and Forest Park and of course a stop at Trader Joe's...then over to St. Charles county for the wine tour...

Tell 'em all to get out...after they visit and spend lots of cash!
I am kidding!!!! Just kidding!
As a native Missourian I to am seeing lots of new houses go up in places
I never expected. It's driving land prices up, slowly but surely, in my old hometown.
Better get some while you can before all the coasters snap it up. We are being invaded!

I think you hit the nail on the head, Janet! I only had one other thought and it pales in comparison. MO is still the gateway to the west. ajf would say that's why we're called the MIDWEST! Hahaha!
But I digress... ...I think we're still the best choice for traveling east and west in our great country. There are two ways to go through, on I70 and I44, and I think it is more scenic and the weather is more "in the middle" than the northern or southern routes.
And I think it IS "just that COOL of a place to visit", too!

I know...and I'm sorry if we're making life difficult for you natives, Inoxkeeper! I know you were kidding but I really mean that. The good news is that if you own your home...you stand to make some serious money if or when you DO sell!
I hope we will contribute to the communities we move to. Hopefully, our numbers...and money...will revive and thrive towns, bringing more revenue in taxes and to business owners. We also bring skills with us that can contribute to our communities. The funny thing is, though, that while we are all encouraging other "forumers" and our loved ones to move here, at the same time, we all kind of hope that the MO secret doesn't get out to the masses! We hope to keep what is special about MO special. We don't want to turn it into CA or TN or LA or NC (I'm sorry for all those I left out). I hope that is an encouragement to you and your fellow native Missourians.

[quote=kareybear;1023022] As it turns out, it's very simple. MO requires front and back license plates so you'll have to just find a place to hang em up in the garage or somewhere. Of course, if NC winds up being a personal bad memory, you can dent that license plate all up before hanging it. Then, your wall will tell a story, too! Now, that's what I call "multi-tasking"! Hahaha!

How ironic, I've always felt the opposite. Maybe it's because I live in horribly dull South County, but I rarely see out of state plates (other than Illinois), but when I go to other states (Wyoming, Colorado), I see plates from all over North America.

As Rosanna, Rosanna Danna would say...
"Well, there ya go. It just goes to show ya..." Teehee!
It all boils down to experience, experience, experience!
Thanks for sharing, lovethewest! Oh...and we promise to not hold it against you for loving the west!
