About 9-10 months ago I saw an adult mt. lion dragging a dead deer carcass up a hill along 635 just a 100yards or so south of the missouri river. (last Hill on east side of the highway as you travel northbound and are about to go over the bridge)

It was about 8AM on a Sunday morning and I've seen enough animals in my day to correctly ID it....not that a bobcat would have been able to drag a dead deer like that even if I hadn't seen the big long tail and gotten an otherwise good look at it.

Basically, about 1-2 miles due south of the argosy casino.

Not shocking, they hit one with a car on I29 not more than 10 miles from there about 5 years ago.

Default Farmer/rancher shoots Mt. Lion in Ray Co. MO

Ray County mountain lion a Missouri rarity - KansasCity.com (http://www.kansascity.com/2011/01/03/2558645_officials-relieved-ray-county.html?storylink=omni_popular - broken link)

This specimen was up in the branches of a tree on Littleton’s 350 acres just east of Richmond.

The cat’s misfortune stemmed from the taste for veal he had developed. A few months ago, Littleton found one calf mauled; another completely disappeared. Then a cow showed claw marks on its hindquarters.

Two raccoon hunters noticed Littleton’s cattle were riled up and skittish. Looking up in a tree, they saw why.

“They called me on their cell phone, and I went out there. They were afraid if they shot him, they’d get in trouble,” he said.

Sounds like the Missouri Fish & Game and California Fish & Game are run by the same philosophy. You'll learn quickly in the next five years how fast they can decimate deer herds. How much Show me State attitude will it take before you realize you have a problem on your hands. Take action now because once the City Liberals in your state start being concerned about the furry little 150lbs kitties, the fight will be ended before you show up. Then you'll be left to take matters in your own hands. Just some neighborly advice. Oh and always check your back trail now.

Indeed. Political favors have put the St. Louis liberals in charge of the MDC. Interesting that knowing very little about the state you picked up on that quickly.

Politics have been the same sense the dawn of time. Unfortunately ranchers, farmers, sportsmen/conservationists are very poor at organising together against liberal left wing groups for smaller issues such as mountain lion management, until it's to late.

BUT BUT BUT I thought Missouri didn't have a puma population.

One less kitty to deal with.

In Kansas City, they're more interested in hunters decimating the deer population...in city parks.

Interesting. In this particular cast the cougar killed is not being reported as contributing to livestock kills or as even threatening the coyote hunters. It was just "close enough" to cause a threat, yet had not yet. Sounds like they were right at the line of what was acceptable. 20 yards is close but not so close as I'd say shooting on sight was required unless it was still approaching. Wonder if they attracted it with a predator call?
