Independent State of Dunklin
During the Civil War in 1862, Dunklin County adopted a resolution to secede from the Union. It became known as the "Independent State of Dunklin." Union troops occupied Kennett briefly in1863, and guerilla raiders roamed the area constantly

I forgot to post this in the past, but most people don't know that St. Louis had a few thousand Irish residents that joined the Confederate Army, or state guard under Sterling Price.

Father John Bannon and the St. Louis Irish Confederate Community.

Also another tidbit Missouri sent at least 4 times as many men to the Confederate army than Florida did and nearly the same number as Texas did.

Draw a line from Ste. Genevieve to Joplin. Missouri feels Southern south of that line. North of that line, Missouri feels Midwestern.
