Kelsterg3-are you always this rude and condescending to other people? Good grief.
1-Most citizens of this country don't need you speaking up for them. They can pretty damned well speak for themselves.
2-Okay, you're a teacher. So? I have a friend who has a masters degree in early childhood education. She taught for 6 years, and went screaming for any open door due to the California State Teachers Union. Liberal, do-gooder California has lost her, and many other excellent instructors because of the "progressive" union.
3-You then proceed to give your laundry list of demands. Weird.
4-And you wonder why you have been priced out of living in your own state? All of this political correctness has a steep price tag to go with it. And for all of the bull I don't see that life improves in any form.
Just live your life, where you want, and let everyone else live their lives. You would be surprised what you can learn from a plain ol' hardworking man or woman. You would be surprised what you can learn when you shut up and listen.
Hmm... see I do not think I am being rude. I came into this forum saying that I would really like to not believe the rumors and silly sterotypes... I laid all my cards on the table for some constructive feedback. I still do not think I or this forum represent the people of the West coast, or liberals, or even all of MO, but here we get a taste for when cultures clash. I have read through my replies, and still do not see a sliver of the insulting communication taking place that others have been posting. Oh, and by what I know a few of you usual MO posters like to JUMP all over people. If I had used not liberal, or West Coast but put another word there like for instance... accepting, open minded, ect I think this forum would have turned out differently. There may be a stigma for simply using the word "liberal"... and what that means.
Can any one from MO give honest, CONSTRUCTIVE feedback. That means non-verbally abusive... I think a little conflict resolution is in order. If this is too challenging, then keep your slanders, and scare tactics away.
Anyway, after some private messages I got, it does seem that people are so SCARED of posting messages on an open forum that they had to tell me what I already have figured out after posting in this forum. People in your own area do not even feel comfortable to speak their mind for FEAR of the threats.
I feel really lucky now to live somewhere where people actually come for a safe haven.
I bow out of this forum, and I hope it simply dies back into the online vault to not further cause hate to anyone from anywhere.
Peace.

Kelsterg3 - just asking, how many other threads / posts within the MO forum have you had a chance to read? Granted the words in these posts are via those Missourians that have access to the 'net and subsequently are also members of this forum,,, so therefore may or not accurately represent the entire state and/or parts thereof - you can make that decision. Nevertheless, a person will find varying areas within the different sections & cities of Missouri, yet those in the rural parts are for the most part, to some degrees, more conservative, wary, and independent... and yes, that is deeply within my own blood too.
To anyone that is scared or in some fear to post herein, my sincere apologies... as both a mod and as a Ozarkian hillbilly, 'tis my strong belief that ANYONE should be welcomed and have the right to express their opinions and suggestions [of course within legal & ToS rules, and with respect to others] w/o any considerations of reprisals. This forum is open to everyone.
With that said, yes, there are personalities, with goals, with viewpoints,,, all with varying desires to express themselves,,, some more open / vocal than others. And the culture is different (yet interestingly quite the same, to some levels) in some manners from region to region, state to state, county to county, city to town - which is good,,, as it brings variety and spice to this country. I believe it would be damn boring if we was all the same - unique perspectives is what makes us stronger,,, as long as we can, if not appreciate or like, but at least respect the rights of others to be different.
Kelsterg3 - I hope that you do get a chance to visit MO, and have time to meet peoples here, w/o any prejudice, in either direction. What harms that ability is when people are wanting or expecting or believing that there be demons,,, when in reality we are all more similar than different.
Best wishes.

Sorry Shadow - the occasional college attending know it all that pops in here from out of state that starts telling us what he/she 'knows' about our state and what they 'will or will not tolerate' about us, our neighbors and our state should they choice to move here - tends to rub me the wrong way. What the OP 'thinks' about Missouri is his business and his business alone - until he makes it an issue on an open forum by expressing it. Then he makes it 'our' business and free game for critical review.
Unlike a verbal conversation, an internet forum offers an individual the luxury and ability to review and edit their statement before they hit "Submit Reply' or "Post". This guy walked into our school yard, introduced himself by tossing a rock, and wasn't happy when it was thrown back.
I agree with you that it is regrettable "if" there are Missourian's on this forum who are afraid to post a reply that is not in the majority. This is not a political or religious board, which are typically two subjects one should not discuss openly if they expect a conversation to remain civil, so why members are afraid to disagree with others "is" concerning.
I would note that in this conversation, christina0001 gave the OP a constructive and unbiased answer, and one that broke with the others by being both inviting and informative - and I am not finding where this person was vilified by anyone of us who were less inviting.
After reading a few more of the o/p's posts in other forums I just didn't think Missouri was really a good fit so I tried to ask the o/p if she had considered a town in Oregon that I thought might be a better choice.
I have to laugh when people say they are, "open minded" but forget to finish the sentence. I'm open minded to those who agree with me and I have zero tolorence for the rest of you.

No qualms here,,, agree. What is interesting is the diffs in the replies / tone in this thread and another one that is similar (in the fact of a CA inquiring about moving to MO) Fed Up with California and Moving to Missouri

Ughhh... such a sad forecast! Everyone I knew from this area in Portland said they felt really trapped and had to move to the West Coast because people were so STRICT about their views and what was OKAY. I thought they were just being dramatic but after posting questions like this from Hawaii, to New Zealand, MO - Ozark forum is the most unfriendly set of replies I have had so far.
Its like you guys just want an excuse to fight... but yes I guess being raised so liberally I dont understand the different cultures in our country. The west coast view to me is all I know, so I guess I am on a bit of an island....
I hoped for a warm welcome with fireflies, a strong sense of community, and love for education I have heard a lot about...
I never tried to offend anyone from this area, but I can not say its so welcoming
Unfriendly, no. Folks in this thread are being flat-out honest with you. There is nothing "liberal" about the Missouri Ozarks. It is in the heart of the Baptist and Pentecostal bible belt.
Telling you the truth before you move somewhere and find out you don't like it is the right thing to do. In Missouri we don't sugar coat the truth, ever. Would you rather folks lie to you and you come to the Ozarks with unrealistic expectations?
From your post about yourself and that which you are seeking, the Missouri Ozarks are most likely not a good fit. Not being rude, just honest.
Welcoming fireflies, a strong sense of community, and a love for education are not exclusive to "liberals".
Ever hear of the expression "stubborn as a Missouri mule"? Well, in the Ozarks that term isn't exclusive to the mules; and, most who appreciate the heritage of the Ozarks like it that way. YMMV.

seems to me that thier intro's were quite different, one wanting to escape CAlifornia's B.S. and the other wanting to bring Oregon's.
Could be wrong, just my opinion
