We just want to live, not work to live, if that makes sense.

I'm SO there. Less is more...I don't mind working to live, jes' don't want to live to work.
So glad you found this virtual and real place to hang out...if you haven't heard we actually get together once a month.
It's been very cool.
Again, welcome.

Life, work and the pursuit of happiness
Thank you MrsG, Lake Junkie - I wish I could say that the 'wise' thoughts were all my own, but I think it's more an outcome of what I've been reading, day-to-day life, and looking at everyone around me - family, friends, neighbors.
I don't have an aversion to work at all (well, maybe on cold mornings when it's warm under the covers!), but rather the type of work we're all so busy doing these days. I feel inherently that we have lost ourselves in our "advancements" to the point of where we don't really have satisfaction any more, but are just meeting the bills by hiring out our labor. I could go on (and on and on), but this probably isn't the place for it
While my desire is to live simply, off of the land (chickens, cows, goats, crops) and work as needed to supplement what we cannot produce ourselves, my better half cannot imagine life without a 'job' somewhere else. An outgrowth of a man's measurement by his livelihood I suppose. It's a whole mindset that he's only half with me on as of yet, but he DOES like the looks of the land of the 'show-me state'!
Our mini-forest is resplendent with yellows, oranges and reds - just beautiful!
And as Thanksgiving approaches, may you have warmth, solid shelter, lovingly prepared and tasty food, the joy of ones that you love amongst you, and good health.
Regards,
~SK

Good for you, SimplerTimez! We have some similar desires but are going to need some hand-holding so we can learn to do some of it. Yes, this isn't the right place to discuss that. You're quite wise for such a newbie to the site! It'd be a good thread to start sometime when people aren't so busy with the holidays, though.
May you also have a blessed Thanksgiving, as you have wish for others!

Hubby and I have always said we are at a stage in our lives where we want to "own", not be "owned". Don't want to owe anyone anything, except hugs and kisses.
Welcome aboard. You will love, absolutely love, the characters you meet in this place. Yep, folks, I called you creatures - albeit, entertaining!

Great philosophy, Sassy! Your husband seems like a keeper! Hmmm...and I believe you must have a lot to be thankful for today!

MrsG.
Not to brag - too much, BUT, if I had provided the gods above a "wish list" of what I wanted in a mate, they took my list, added 100 more assets and gave me my husband. Wonderful man. My best friend, ever. He has to be to put up with me. I am sooooo blessed.

That's wonderful to hear, and may the two of you be able to celebrate many more happy years together!
It's the same with my wife. I'm so glad I waited until the age of 37 to get married. We just celebrated our two-year anniversary less than two weeks ago. She is going to be really happy to become a Missourian soon!

NB - maybe we will be the ones to start a new "old" fad for folks, or at least offer a good example. We will ALL (those of us who have not made it yet) be thankful for a relocation to the great state of Missouri.

Why do I have images of the beautiful curvy two-lane roads of my beloved Ozarks being infested by motor homes, being driven by semi-senile old farts, going 15 mph!?!?!
