Ah, Missouri... I miss
bullbats in the dusk,
folks who wave on the roads,
the smell of sycamore leaves,
the color of chert gravel bars on the river,
four o'clocks opening,
call of the Bob White,
real home-grown tomatoes,
the Current River,
nodding Lady Slippers,
summer storms with lightning.
And that's just for starters.

Hillman,
I'm so sorry, I know there is no pain like that of losing a child. We lost our second child as a baby, she would have been 18 this year. It doesn't seem to ever get easier really. Days pass ok but then memories come and what if's come and the thoughts wondering how she might have been and what she could have been doing.

cyber ((HUG)) for you and your family

Default It Looks Good From Kansas

Being near the KS-MO border, Missouri looks really good. I see them growing, voting on spending where over here they have the power of the pen when it comes to spending so our taxes are really high and it seems we have nothing to show for it. Lots of people here are looking at Missouri as a future home, sooner than later. I think too that Missouri offers a lot of diversity as far as activities from the biggest cities, Branson/Silver Dollar City area, to the backwoods and lots in between.

With five children, two stepchildren and nine grandchildren, that's a loss I can't imagine. My heart goes out to you and her entire family. This reminds me of just how impermanent we all are and the fact that in the natural order of things it's us elders who should certainly go first, leaving room for those who follow us.

Hillman, you and I seem to be the only ones here who actually growed up hillbilly (Silvermouse, perhaps, I'm not sure), so I know what you're talking about with the whippoorwills. I also like the call of the mourning dove. Both the whippoorwill and the mourning dove have a sound that speaks Ozarks to me. The whippoorwill's cherry call reminds me of the good life here, while the mourning dove reminds me of the hardscrabble quality of life.

I'm sorry about your grandbaby. I've got two granddaughters and one grandson. The thought of living without one of them stabs me in the heart.

You and I, though, have a consolation. We believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his death, burial and resurrection. Jesus rose again, and the promise is that your grandbaby and all of our loved ones who committed their lives to Christ will, too.

May God bless you and your family this Easter, and every day.

I don't know if I mentioned it before but what I really love in Missouri are the smells of the plants. The trees and grass and flowers. The moist air helps with that.

I am back in very dry air and though we live in the trees, near the forest, it is high desert and it is dry and dust is the main outdoor scent you'll notice.

I grew up in a much more lush, moist climate and I never have had much love for dry desert air.
