Would suggest that you check out: wikipedia.org/wiki/redneck very informative article and description. Read the Modern Usage part of the article. As a St. Louisan, I would not consider myself a redneck by birth.

This is my favorite thread EVER!!!
Well, how easy is THIS to answer?! I agree with all of your reasons and just have to add a couple more...
Along with that "greenness" (yes, I think it's a word!) , we love the rolling hills here in the Ozarks and the long and winding roads that go along with them!
Oooh...and the beautiful clouds and sky!
Oh! And thunder and lightening!
Mmmm...and lazy rivers!
And how about the darkness out in the country which allows you to see so many stars?! Yeah!
And less traffic! That, too!
And no conversation of what I love about Missouri would be complete without mentioning FIREFLIES! They are one of my favorite childhood memories and I am still fascinated by them today!
Okay, I guess I added more than a couple. It's easy to do!

I too was born and raised in the St. Louis area and I sure as hell know that I am the farthest thing from a redneck there is, as are all the people I know and have basically ever encountered here who are St. Louis natives.

I am redneck through and through. Want to know what makes me redneck? My grandma was a Hatfield!!! That makes me a redneck and I am darn proud of it. I was not born in St. Louis. I was raised in parts of St. Louis County, not the damn city. To me a redneck is a wonderful down to earth person who lov es nature and people and will go out of their way to help friends and families.

That was the one thing I noticed about NM immediately...no darn fireflies anywhere I have seen. I remember chasing and catching them when I was a child. We also used to play flashlight tag after dark. It seems that the way the country has gone it is hard to allow children to be children in their neighborhoods.

....Wow...I've never heard the term redneck used like that before. Redneck to me means somebody that is lower class, into guns, protecting their personal property, etc....the whole country is full of 'em. But I guess you could say you have redneck affiliations since you claim your ancestor is a Hatfield.

Btw, St. Louis County doesn't have rednecks generally either. I was also born and raised in St. Louis County..I basically consider that the same thing as St. Louis. I've never met a single redneck from St. Louis in my life...you'd have to be the first.

Then you have not met many people in the St. Louis area. Redn eck is al a person who will protect his own property, but why would anyone in their right mind think that was wrong? hmmmmmm I am not the first but then, like I said, you don't know everyone in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. Have you ever met south-side hoosiers? I won't ask about any others or people might get the idea about bigoted remarks. Needless to say that it seems that many in St. Louis really don't know the are as well as they think they do.
I am not claiming anything that is not true. The facts are that my grandmother was a Hatfield. Facts are facts and I am proud of my ancestry.
BTW, white trash is the low-class people. Redneck does not necessarily mean low-class but it does to people who have no idea about honest to goodness rednecks. It proves my point that you have no idea who is a redneck or white-trash there in St. Louis. I know people of types of backgrounds. That may explain why I understand the terms much more than some do. I have been around millionaires and people who can barely make enough to survive on. That would explain why I understand the terms so differently than so many. When you have not been around and understand all kinds of people then you really only know what youi have read or been told.
Why in the heck would anyone think that there are no rednecks in St. Louis County? How small minded of you to even think so. St. Louis County has all kinds of people and they are not all yuppish, as you seem to be. Apparently you have never met people in the M aryland Heights area. Of course there was an area, before the airport bought out the property up on Gist Road behind the old Carrollton Subdivision. Like I said, you have not and do not know that many people.
