So...any thoughts on the diff?

What about South St. Louis?
Well, I would almost rule out St. Louis as a part of Missouri if I could. The rest of the state is friendly!

I'm new to the forum, and I just wanted to let y'all know that I really feel good about looking in MO for a place to settle down. Your descriptions, your banter and your decorum certainly add to the charm of the place.
We're moving in the next year, and I just started searching out places to explore when we get some time off. Thanks for sharing

Serously - welcome to the madhouse, and hope that ya enjoy your visit. Please leave cookies at the nearest cave entrance, and feel our warm & sincere greetings [and maybe a friendly bat wing upon your shoulder ] as we help, amuse, chortle, and learn in this journey. Cheers!

Thanks and welcome here! Missouri native who has lived in California for the past 21 years. Your forum name encapsulates what we're looking forward to when my wife and I get moved back there ourselves!
Where do you currently live? Is it in California, or someplace else?

We currently live about an hour north of Atlanta. We fled there over a year ago to find a more rural life after a drug bust on the front sidewalk in broad daylight!! We've both come to the realization that the 'life model' that we have been striving to attain isn't the one that brings happiness, contentment and community. So we're trying to downsize our possessions, we've cut our consumerism, and we're studying alternative energy and building methods. We've already started organic gardening as well.
We just want to live, not work to live, if that makes sense.
Be happy with less.

Will banana bread flax muffins work just as well to charm the bats? We put up a bat house here, but no one moved in - must be the property tax rates!!
Thanks for the warm welcome

Welcome to the forum, SimplerTimez! I can see already that you're going to be an assett to the forum and a lot of fun, as well!
Your comment, " We just want to live, not work to live, if that makes sense. Be happy with less." was so wise and well said that I just had to acknowledge it here! I hope you and your family are able to make your way here to MO to live out the rest of your life in peace!
My parents are both MO natives who left for CA to find work when times were hard. I was the first child born in CA and am the first of my family to return, my husband and I having come to similar conclusions as yours, it seems.
 See you 'round the forum!
MrsG
P.S. I was reading about building a bat house recently and they said you need to have a larger body of water nearby than a bird bath for them to swoop down to get their drinks. They were saying that bats are very good to have around but since we don't have that, I decided it wasn't for us right now.

I haven't seen your state yet, but I love the fact that MO gave us Brad Pitt
On a more serious note, I enjoyed reading your posts. What beautiful descriptions.
