Redneck, Hillbilly, Hick,,, what is you?!?!?
Ok, simple enough,,, for yas that call MO your home, or yu'ins that wanna-be's, this thread is to yammer about what you call yourself, and to also debate [in a friendly civil Ozarkian manner! ] what these terms mean, and then to put forth your reasoning behind the term and how it may best fit within our beloved state's borders.

I'm a city girl at heart, but prefer a small city around the size of New Orleans (which has a post-Katrina population of 200,000). I have visited Springfield several times and it is big enough for me. I plan to live inside the Springfield city limits when I retire there.
I would not have a clue about how to deal with a septic tank or well water, and I have no desire to learn!
Along with city water and sewerage, I want to have a good police force and fire department covering my area instead of volunteers. I love having plenty of shopping close by,not to mention libraries, gyms, and other activities too (Think "Bass Pro Shop" which is so much fun even when I don't buy a thing). I have to have my cable TV and cable internet. Springfield can offer all of that, without the high prices and high crime of some bigger cities.

I guess that I will have to retract my statement of me being a redneck. I am guessing that I would be a hillbilly instead since the Hatfields were considered hillbillies. That is ok. I will call myself a hillbilly instead. I will wear it with pride. LOLOLOL

I dont know what I am ... maybe someone on here can help me ??
I love being in the country ... Out in the woods hiking .. I even like fishing if I don't have to worm my own hook!
Outdoor cooking
Watching the stars ...
sunsets and sunrises
I don't really like to dress up ... but If I have to I can and can pull it off.
I like things to look natural .. I don't like fake looking landscaping .. I like it to look like it just happen .... wildflowers are prettier than roses - I wish my husband would figure out they are cheaper and I like them better!!
I don't care to shop .. Yes I am female .. I just really have come to an age in my life that there is nothing worth spending my Saturday tromping through the mall looking for whatever it is I must have .. I would rather be at home enjoying my home!
I was born in a smaller city ....... (it has a bus and cabs so its big compared to where I am now) .. I have always dreamed of living in the country having animals etc......
I live now on a small farm .. I have corn on 3 sides of me ..cows on the other .. hogs behind me and chickens too.
When the corn comes down I love walking the field picking up the corn left behind ...
If it was not soo flippen cold I could probably enjoy deer hunting ...
BBQ with friends .. just hanging out in the yard .. like I said nothing formal just being our selfs.. thats a good time! ...
I love catching frogs / toads .. showing the grandkids .. they are soo fascinated with them right now...
I don't mind 3 wheelers/ 4 wheelers .. as long as Im driving and there is no telephone poles near by (another story another day lol)
Not afraid of getting dirty ..........
Guess I'm just a good ol country gal!
Your thoughts?

Parts and parts...
Well...I think I must be a pinkneck.
I like burgers at the local dirt track...and I like sushi.

I'm at home at a creek party...and at Sunday brunch at the Chateau.

I wear cutoffs...and birkenstocks.

I believe in God and Country and Family...and preach tolerance.

I cook with Bad Byron's Butt Rub...and things like tarragon, tofu & lentils.

I drive a Jeep...used to own a Volvo.

Love a cold beer on a hot day...and a dirty martini...two olives.

So.
I'm thinkin' pink.

2bRnot - my thought, since you asked , is that you are indeed a good ol' country gal, with tendencies of a bona fide hillbilly.
lady of the lake - yea, that is I imagine that most/many people have tendencies of multiple, ummm,,, 'personalities', if you will.
Nawlin's Lady - if ya ever do find yourself in such situation, just remember that good clean clear water comes up from a well, and that used dirty, brown, yella water [and other uhem stuff] goes into the septic.
MORW - curious,,, does that mean then that you are gonna have to change your moniker to MOHillbillyWoman?

I agree with you Shadow Caver.
I see myself a lot like how 2beamissourian described herself. I have always been more of a tomboy but female when it was necessary. I love animals and always have my whole life. I remember one time when I was about 7 or 8 years old and I brought a beautiful black and white kitty home and wanted to keep it, of course. As soon as my grandma saw me and the "cat", she grabbed the "cat" out of my arms tossed it on the ground and took me into the bathroom and started making me get undressed for a bath and she called my mother at her job and told her to get home and buy all of the tomatoe juice she could buy on the way home and do it immediately. LOLOLOLOL Apparently I had brought a young skiunk home with me and the house was in an uproar over that one. Needless to say, we did not get to keep the nice kitty I had found and brought home. I was always bringing different animals home until I finally had it instilled into me that wild animals are best appreciated in the wild and to leave them alone and respect them as wild. I worked for 3 summers at the St. Louis Zoo and learned a great deal working there and loved it c ompletely....well except for the time that a monkey grabbed my glasses and broke them by playing with them. LOLOLOL

WEll now, this will take some deep concentration. I was born in the city, lived for the past 3+ decades in the middle of nowhere. I love MY woods so much it hurts. I love our lake and our lakefront lot so much it also hurts (only 'cause I can't build a house 'over there' due to now utilities yet.
I miss a lot of what my birth city had/has to offer. Almost 2 hr drive away.
I miss the job opportunities.
I miss the choices that present itself when ya do have to shop
I miss the people watching at times. We are such funny creatures at times.
I won't go into here and now about what I don't miss. That would take way too long.
I love My woods as I said.
I love my gardens that have taken soooo long to create. Thanks to my daughter-in-law and her never ending advice and compliments.
I love the birds. Ask me now what kind of bird it is and I can now happily tell ya. Thanks to bird book and binoculars given as a Christmas present from my sweet husband our first year 'out here'. It really saved my sanity
I love watching almost like clockwork (well guess it really is) during the first week of April, the first blooms on the trees that surround us.
I love the night sounds.
The list could go on and on about why I love it here but still have fond memories of MY big city upbringings.
So, does this make me a: are ya ready for this one? Drum roll .....
A Citybilly. or how about a Hillcitygirl...Need to think more about this. You guys are sooo much fun......
