Default First tornado outbreak of 2011?

Storm chasers are buzzing about the set-up for severe storm possibilities Sunday night in Southwest Missouri, and the four corner area. No one seems to be convinced of a major outbreak but conditions appear to be setting themselves up for some serious storms late in the day, and into the evening. Right now it appears most of the activity in Missouri may be after the sun sets.

This graph is only good today but here are the NOAA expectation's for tomorrow Storm Prediction Center Feb 26, 2011 1730 UTC Day 2 Convective Outlook

This forecast puts the threat to the Springfield area very late at night (after 11 pm) http://smartwxmodel.net/KSGF.pdf (broken link) and West Plains http://smartwxmodel.net/KUNO.pdf (broken link)

Different forecast models put the storms and their intensity in different places at different times, and Southern Missouri appears to be at the north end of most of them, but they all seem to agree that the atmosphere could get very juicy.

Good time of the year to make sure everyone in the family knows where to go, or is reminded of what to do, in case of an immediate threat.

We've got family in Joplin so while I envy their warm temps tomorrow I'll be hoping they stay safe and don't have severe storms. I believe only one out of four of them have any area in their home that could be considered safe as a shelter.

We passed on a place I really loved in favor of buying one I simply liked because house number two had a basement. Even though we've only hunkered down twice in 3-1/2 years, on nights like tonight I'm very glad we have it. I'm there now, TV on, lap top running, dogs asleep at my feet.

In the past five years, most new home construction in our area has included walk out basements. They nearly double potential living space without doubling construction costs.
