Casino
How close is the nearest Casino to Springfield, MO??? Seems like Branson should have a casino, with 7 million visitor every year. That would bring in big $$ to MO.

Are you trying to start trouble, or do you really not know?
This has been a big debate in the area for the last few years. The City of Rockaway Beach (not far from Branson) has been trying to get approval for a Casino. The family entertainment folks in Branson have succesfully fought it. The debate is ongoing and I believe it will be on the ballot again this year.
Right now the closest Casino is in Oklahoma - about 1.5 hours.

I read your post and laughed - "Casino" is a dirty word in this area. So, Ditto Ozarks21 on your reply. Is it the Quapaw Casino on the Oklahoma border that's the closest? It will be interesting to see if Rockaway is able to build the casino - Branson is really fighting them. Branson is a huge tourist area - think Las Vegas without the casinos...and proud of it. The city is very proud of their family-oriented activities and VERY low crime rate...
You can always go to "The Boats" in KC or St. Louis.

Didn't mean to hit a nerve. Live in Phoenix, Az and we have over 20 in the state. We go to Vegas a couple of time a year.
Thinking of moving to MO to get away from the BIG city life, but would miss the Friday night casino. Glad to know that a casino is only 1 1/2 hours away for when we want to loose some $$$.
We want to move to MO for the family oriented activities and low crime and cheap living. It sounds like heaven....
Thanks

get over yourself
"Oh! Don't you know that word hurts us!"
Please, get over it.
As much as I hate to say it, a casino with all of the negative side-effects withstanding, would improve Rockaway Beach.
After 420 million dollars have been spent on the Branson Landing, do you really think those investors are going to want potential casino dollars and customers to flow to Oklahoma, Kansas city, or St, Louis?
No.
They're going to put their clout behind the casino, and it will arrive, in Rockaway Beach...eventually.
That's my prediction.
I'm not trying to be nasty, just look at the money spent and the money to be made. Clean family town or not, Branson will not turn away gamblers from spending their time or money in Branson.
Is someone going to guard the entrance to Branson and ask visitors if they've been to that dirty casino in Rockaway Beach before they come in and spend their money in Branson? No.
I was in Rockaway Beach this past weekend, it could use a cleaning!
Hopefully developers would buy much of the town and revitalize it's buildings, homes and businesses.
Jeff

Branson Crime
If anyone thinks Branson has a low crime rate, purchase a scanner and you will hear the actual dispatching to the calls daily, of burglaries, robberies, domestic violence, drugs, child abuse, vandalism, drive off gas purchase, rolling domestics, boat dock thefts, construction thefts, disgruntled tourist, wanted felons, illegals, road rage, and all of the crimes you have in other communities. They never hit the news unless they are high profile!

here there is a great casino in booneville which is up by columbia
the thing about the one on booneville is that like harrahs in st louis and kansas city even just going one time you will for thenext few months get a thing in the mail monthly with an offer for a free one night room at the motel and the rooms are simply gorgeous and so very awesome, sometimes it is 2 nights, not a weekend nite but still a great deal we have used it often really nice to have a room right there on the premises that is that nice and free

you are quite correct but not just branson try joplin springfield even little neosho, call for police assistance at night get it sometime next day. sad state of affairs use to be a state everyone wanted to raise kids away from all of that ,not any more. but every state claims to have the least of it all. years ago we could say that and stand by it but not any more. being to old to move,i just park car behind fence, lock windows and door at nite and wonder what ever happened to not having to do that.
