My family and I are also thinking of moving to Missouri. Reading your questions and answers have answered many of my questions.
We also raise beef cattle and have a few horses and mules. Where are you moving from? Bonnie |

Ash Grove Missouri Is a wonderful place to live you can find farms for a good price ( we bought our little 10 ac. for $25,000 ) . Pepole are still friendly schools are still good. And you can get to springfield in 20 min. Where you can get anything you would ever need. or drive into town and there is a store, movie rental place, dollar store, and 3 gas stations, and a farm and home store. There is lots of land for sale right now.

ETII: I concur with those that advocate the Springfield area. So much to do! As far as finding a suitable farm/ranch I suggest bypassing traditional realty agencies and look for estate sales that are auctioning real estate. I don't know the reasons behind it but it appears that there's a lot of farms being autioned. At about half the price one would normally pay

Heaton: Boonville is a city on I - 70. It would appear to be roughly half way between KC and St Louis. It has a casino known colloquially as "Pile of Debris".

At one point in reading this post, I saw something mentioned about the recent rise in gang activity, but I saw no response. I wouldn't want you to think we're avoiding the topic. I live in Springfield, and I will admit that lately there has been an increase in gang activity. I have lived here for 7 to 8 years, and up until this past year, I never heard anything about gang activity. In fact, I really didn't here much about homicides (occasionally, but rare).
Since Katrina and I do mean this with no disrespect or ill-feelings towards people who relocated toward this area, it seems our crime rate has gone up. I don't know if there's a correlation there or not. It may just be due to the growth around here. Are our police officers doing anything about it? Sure. But we must remember that they're not used to this type of violence because it hasn't been an issue here. I wouldn't go as far as to say they're doing their best, but I'm sure they're trying. They just don't know what to do. How to handle it. I don't foresee the problem getting too out of hand because of the size and layout of Springfield. |

I do agree with you nitemare about the market prices- but I do miss the hometown feel. We moved away about 18 months ago and really miss those Missouri autumns! Autumn here, it seems like, is one weekend and if you miss the drive well then you've missed fall!!
