Signs of PTSD are not uncommon. After I was trapped in wild ride in a mobile home during a tornado it took me several years before I could sleep in a bed again. I was angry that I heard the storm (2am) and ignored it until it was too late. Decided to be a light sleeper after that. 20+ years later and I've only just started allowing myself to sleep when I know severe weather is coming. So, Don't worry about still being upset or angy. I'd think something was not alright if someone didn't give it a second thought. This too shall pass....it will just take time.

Angry Frustrated - Aggravated - Disappointed -

Update --- finally decided it was time to seek counseling... had two sessions but after the initial talk, the second one seemed uneventful and not helpful to me. Still wanting to cry and scream and vent but my counselor wants me to analyze why I think my problems are less than everyone elses when it is not, why my anger is towards people who were fortunate not to lose their home and we did, why we didn't die or get sucked up and spit out. I have a feeling I'm going to have to suffer with these feelings and thoughts on my own. AGGRAVATED!

kma365, maybe you just haven't found the right counselor. You've had these feelings for months now and two sessions isn't much time comparatively. Do you perhaps have a pastoror someone in the community who is leading a group of others through this? There can be power in numbers when others find they are going through similar questions and emotions. There can be power in talking with those who share similar questions and frustrations.

There is no way to rationalize totally random events in our lives. Who kept or lost a house was as random as the physical forces that guided the tornado. Those who kept their homes had no more control over their fate than did you in losing yours. Look for the good in the simple events, thankful that you are alive. The meaning of life is not in the things or home lost but in the opportunities that remain ahead for you and those whose lives you touch because you are alive today.

Good luck and God bless.

Keep with the counselors. Try and i mean try to find someone else that is hurting more than you and try to help them out.I have done that and it worked for me. Is a vacation away from Joplin possible? As i said in the past. I see no shame or weakness in leaving the area permanently or temporarily. .

I just want to thank all of you that were sending prayers to Joplin. The first post on this thread was a very short time after the storm. Those prayers, just may have saved lives!

I havent been on here in over a year, but I doo see some friends in this thread.

Thanks again for all of your prayers. Joplin is making great progress, and will be stronger than ever. The human spirit has been more than I could have dreamed of. It can make a manly man cry to see all of the people from this country driving for hours or even days to help someone that they never knew and will never see again, in a place that they have never been and will likely never be again.

GOD bless

I hope the ones with PTDS will get help, and that may include medication for awhile--there is nothing wrong with that! It's not a copout. My cousin who was in the Tuscaloosa tornado is finally getting relaxed and is sleeping again. It took awhile. After watching Jaycee Dugard's interview, it put a few things into perspective for my cousin (and me!). I don't know why things happen except that we live in an imperfect world. It's frustrating. Scares me to death sometimes, and makes me wonder when my turn is coming...

btw, thank you for the kind messages some of you gave me privately. I don't know how to reply to them, but thank you just the same!
