MrsG, ifn I may. Thank you for so eloquently expressing what I, myself, wanted to reply but didn't have the nerve. I had attempted to stay away from this forum because of this, but just couldn't do so. I do not like snippy remarks. They are underhanded and so many times can be taken the wrong way. The weather topic was a good one, and I hated to see it go downhill for a minute or two.

So, how about this: It was 104 here at my house and even the boids weren't doing much moving around. Even with the sprinkler on 'em.

Thanks again for explaining to both these fine persons how it is here. I am new myself and am constantly amazed and thrilled about the ability to tease. charm, inform, and generally have a darn good time on this forum. Thanks again and good luck to ya.

Let me ask you all this. Those who have moved to Mo from Cali. Is the weather realy that much harder to get used to? I love summer rain and lightning storms. It awakens me. Almost like playing kick the can for those ederly people in that old "Twilight Zone movie" Humidty isnt a bad word to me. But then again I dont think Ive felt it at 100%.
Then thiers the winters. Ive been in snow. Is it realy that much colder. Give me the scoop.

My understanding is that it is hot pretty much everywhere...according to the weather forecasters, it's even hot in the northern states even though it is said to not get as hot. For me, though, any hot is a hot I don't like. The problem with those northern states for me is that they also have colder winters...well...COLD WINTERS...VERY COLD WINTERS and for a very long time! So, I say, "Thanks but no thanks!"

Anyway, the purpose of this thread was written to alert people on the day that the first heat warning had been given. That gave opportunity for us to all commiserate together in our shared misery. I doubt you meant any harm and your statement was true about August and February but it did come across a little "snippy" because of the last thing you said: "You'd think anyone living in this area would have figured that out by now." Even if you wind up telling us that you didn't mean it that way, that statement was a put down whether it was followed by a or not.

If you've hung around this post very long, you've seen that we work hard to keep things friendly around here and some of us (myself included! ) are bolder to speak up than others when we perceive potential problems. Our purpose is to protect our little forum and all of its members...including you, if you stick around and join us in our nice, little forum world!

To WHO this may concern...

I know I just explained to Katie why her comment was seen as "snippy" in the words of L J. I made a similar response as L J once when someone else made a similar type comment with a smile at the end. She wrote back to say that she didn't mean it that way and I apologized, as I said I would if I was wrong. She wasn't scared off and is a big part of our little family today. Let's hope Katie is another nice person who will stick around and contribute much to this forum.

I appreciate you being brave enough to speak up when you perceived something wrong just as we have when we did. It isn't easy to do any time much less when you already know you're in disagreement with someone. It's hard say things when you're upset without being hurtful... and I must say that accusing others of "bashing" the new kid is coming on pretty strong. I hope others will respond without anger and we can all move forward from here unscathed.
All of the negative comments against Katie45 have been unnecessary...let's move on shall we?

Default CA vs MO Weather

It all depends on what part of CA a person is moving from. Northern CA has much colder/snowier winters than So CA.

We moved from near the beach in So CA to MO. All the seasons were fine in MO until Jan and Feb. Yes, it was much colder than anything we'd ever experienced in CA and not easy to get used to. We never had sub zero temps, ice-laden roads in CA. And of course never needed heavy coats, nor did we have to scrape ice/snow off our cars and warm them up. The weather never dictates your life in a mild-climate region. As I'd been told many times by those who knew, "You have no idea what cold is." And they were right!

I think somebody missed the point of your comments, Mrs. G.
I was away wondering if I can say whatever I want as long as I put a at the end...hmmm...
Anyway, let's move on, shall we?

I appreciate the updates on the weather. We are new here and it is nice to find out how the weather has been in the past. Thanks, Mrs. G and others.

I hope you keep a weather thread going through the winter. That would be realy interesting. We have been told we never experienced cold like Mo has. The snow doesnt scare me. The ice does.
