I mean sure, you can get expensive gourmet stuff there. But it's also a cheapskate's best friend, if you pay attention. In fact, even the gourmet stuff is cheaper at TJ's than it would be elsewhere (go to Whole Foods or Bristol Farms to see what I mean).

Oh, you're right about THAT, J1! I've never even heard of a store called Whole Foods but Bristol Farms prides itself on its high prices, I think! Hahaha! They probably think it'll keep the riff-raff out! Fun store, though!

I just went to Pricecutter for the first time here and was shocked how expensive it was. I also went to Walmart ( yes I have now become a Walmart shopper) and found the grocery prices to be similar to what I am use to paying. Walmart was 2/3 cheaper then Pricecutter. I actually spent 500.00 on groceries that I brought here from my local Trader Joes before I moved so I have a stocked pantry and will have to make the St. Louis trip when I get low. If you have not experienced Trader Joes for yourself I don't think you can appreciate the quality and prices.

Wow, Gripster! I wanna go shopping with YOU when we get one!!!

Thanks for clearing that up, Plains10. I'm sorry if I took it wrong. I'd say I hope you get one up there in KC but if I remember correctly, you're moving away, anyway. Right? Okay, okay...I really do hope you get one up in KC, too! Actually, if you think about it, it would be smart of TJ's to do it that way...more stores for those trucks to divvy the food out to...kwim? That way, they'll get more "bang" for their gas bucks!

Yes, I am moving within the next two months to New Hampshire. I have to get the house sold, and sell a lot of the furniture as well. The rest of the items I have to put into temporary storage before I transport it to my new location. It will be quite a change for me, but the job opportunity I got there is definitely worth it. NH has the Atlantic Ocean and the White Mountains within a short drive, and is a little further removed from the huge population centers along the northeast corridor. (D.C, Philadelphia, NY, Boston) That is a positive in my opinion because I do not like living in a huge metro area.
I will check back to this thread and see if you can get Trader Joe's to come to SW Missouri. I know it will make a lot of the California transplants very happy.

You'll love it..
Manchester is a nice area. Of course, NH is beautiful in general. Enjoy the seafood. And enjoy Fall in New England. It's gorgeous...we'll be there next year for fall. We stay down near Littleton Mass.

While I'll gladly mosey on over to the link to weigh in on Trader Joe's (of course, I love it), I don't told out much hope we will get one here in Springfield. Since moving to Missouri this summer, I've been to TJ in St. Louis two times. One time I got into a conversation with the cashier who told me the company's expansion plans are centered elsewhere--Colorado and the east coast, I believe, he said. Well, it never hurts to try at any rate. Another good chain, Fresh Market, might be a alternative to think about. They are out of North Carolina and while not a TJ clone, they do have a nice upscale grocery store with the emphasis on "fresh."
