Which initiatives? That would be a good place to start this thread. Also need the nexus between them and the reductions for the elderly and disabled.

This is not unusual. States and politicians elsewhere also target the vulnerable and powerless when they're looking for extra funds to spend. Shame on them too!

The only lobbies the low-income seniors and the disabled have are at the Dr's office and churches etc. No one to stand up for them at all.

Last year, the Missouri Tax Credit Review Commission — appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon — recommended the tax break be eliminated for renters but continued for homeowners under the theory that renters do not directly pay property taxes.

There are Area Agencies on Aging, the Silver Haired Legislature, Missourians Stopping Adult Financial Exploitation (MOSAFE), the Ombudsman Program and should be other agencies and organizations speaking out against this.

Over-65 people have massive lobbying organizations- does "AARP" ring a bell? The over-65 group turns out at a much higher percentage to the polls than younger voters, making them a very large voting bloc. If they really didn't have much political clout, we wouldn't have the budget deficit and debt debacle because Medicare and Medicare would be pared or eliminated (they're >50% of federal spending and growing every year.) But they didn't get touched. Coincidence? I think not.

AARP is only an insurance brokerage by another name and does NOT represent seniors. It did in the early years, for thosde 55 and over, but is so left-leaning, many began dropping out and have stayed out because it only represented one element of the spectrum. The initials are just initials now and no longer stand for "retired persons."

Just because they are left leaning that doesn't mean that they are not still among the top 2 lobbying organizations in the country.

As Obamacare gets fired up be prepared for deeper cuts as states are forced to place thousands more on the state Medicaid rolls who did not previously qualify. The welfare state created by Wilson and FDR was unsustainable from the start. Things are about to get tough, really tough. Friends and family are going to have to step up and meet the gaps for their loved ones who will have difficulty making ends meet.
