No. The only place that could POSSIBLY have them would be the extreme southern part of the bootheel, and I've never heard of them being seen there. The Missouri Department of Conservation doesn't even mention them on their website either, so no.

I hope not. I remember them from South Texas. They are nasty, but you can avoid them if you know what you are looking for.

They have been in the bootheel since 2009

Just be careful where you sit. I lived in Florida for a few years and the others aren't kidding - these suckers are mean. I have played around with Missouri ants all my life, but these fire ants operate like they are out of some horror movie.

And sting! Apparently the "fire" has something to do with the pain you feel from their bite(s).

I truly hope they get no further north than the boot heel.

I don't go down to Kennett much, I do have an interview south of New Madrid on Friday though.

Yes, they sting and bite and the sting is poisonous, and they can sting repeatedly like wasps. Once when I was a teen I got stung by 15-20 of them on my arm and had to go to the hospital. I've never been allergic to stings before this. Obviously, I survived though.

Yes, we do. I've never read anything on them in the north half of the state; but, stand near the wrong ant hill and you'll quickly find the difference between our common ants and less frequently seen fire ants. You can find fire ant poison at the hardware stores in Missouri; that is a clue.
