Nevada is a nice town. I have visited many times. It has a small college, a hospital, all the amenities you would need for day to day living (grocery store, doctors, etc.). Ditto bearcat; being right off of I-70 makes it convenient to drive to KC or Joplin. The antique shopping in the area is very good. Also, someone in a different post asked if there is still a state psychiatric hospital in Nevada. Yes, it is still there. I have never heard anything negative about its impact on the community; if anything it is another good source of employment for the area.

I have to correct my previous post here. The state psychiatric hospital is actually in El Dorado Springs, which is 20 minutes east of Nevada. There is some state run facility in Nevada and I was recently told it is for the mentally retarded.

Oh - do you happen to know how the school system is? Any catholic schools? Would me and my children be "accepted"? I know some states are funny like that.

Nevada is a quiet, laid-back, but hard working Midwestern town. It has Southern, Midwestern, and Great Plains influences given its proximity to Arkansas, Kansas, and its being in Southern Missouri.
