Hi -

Back in the early 1990s a friend who had to be nearly 90 years old and I were driving around NE Oklahoma after visiting friends in Wyandotte. We got turned around and ended up in Missouri. We stopped in a little town which really struck my fancy - I'll never forget it! The way I remember it the downtown was in a valley, surrounded by streets and homes which were higher than the downtown street. We had a great dinner in a little old fashioned cafe, then drove on through twinkling lights in the hills. It was kind of like discovering Brigadoon!

I've narrowed it down to the area of Seneca, Hart, or Tiff City. Do any of those towns fit my description above? Or was it another little town in that area? Or do you think we dreamed the town up?

I promise we weren't drunk!

Yes,I think maybe it could have been Seneca.Part of the town is in Oklahoma and part in Missouri.
They are building a Huge casino on the Oklahoma side.I am afraid it will ruin that little town. It has had a small one for quite a few years but this one is going to be huge!

I drove past it last month. It is indeed a monster. I guess it will employ a lot of people but it puts me off.

Oh Phooey, isn't that the way? Just when I think I've found someplace untouched and wonderful, something happens.

Casinos are NEVER beneficial to the community in which they are located. I hope at least the Wyandotte or another tribe is getting the money instead of East/West Coast owners or investors.

I believe it is operated by the Eastern Shawnee Tribe.

Many, many, moon's ago...My huband and I went to see the Spook light! And yes...We had been drinking. (ashamed)... But any who...
We did see it and got bored and decided to see where the road would take us. We drove and drove and ended up in a little town. We had no idea where we were. So we flashed our lights at the only car we saw comming down the street to stop them and ask how to get back home. It happend to be a cop.(He was like Andy Griffith) We ask " what town is this "? He said "Chetopa Kan.". We ask him..." How do we get to Joplin" He said " Where are you from?" We said "Joplin." He Laughed and said "And you don't know how to get back?" LOL!!!
Oh wow! If that would happen today...Well...I would be posting this from the...Mo. State Pen!!!

Okie
