Heard about something called 'Spook Light" in the Joplin, Missouri area. Seems that ever since 1886, a strange light has been seen at times, hovering near farms and such in the dark above County E50 near the Oklahoma line.

Locals cannot agree on what it is. One story goes is that it is the wandering spirits of a Quapaw brave and his wife who lept off of a cliff.

Another is that a miner is clutching a lantern and searching for his lost children. Then some believe that it is a phantom miner hunting for his Native American bride.

Some have thought that it was reflecting headlights from old Route 66, but the lights were seen prior to cars even being in the county.

Since mushrooms don't fly, phosphorescent fungi is not an option. Spooky, huh?

Anyone else with some strange tales, myths, stories and such passed down through the years or just heard about???

It's Foxfire. Scary as heck when you're a young kid growing up in Missouri.

We have 4 of them that we know of. An older male (hubby's dad) 2 females, (my mom and his mom) and a child we don't have any idea who that is. When our 5 yo gson was about 2 he would refuse to go/look down the hallway at night because "they" were looking at him. We had to put a nightlite in each room for him. We have seem them walk from one bedroom, across the hall and into our bedroom. More?????

I beg to differ-the Spooklight is NOT foxfire, that was one of the things investigated when the Army Corp of Engineers tried to explain this phenomenon. I have seen the Spooklight, which is found in Hornet,MO close to the OK line. We were parked on a country road, with a field on both sides. The light began in the field, then moved across and up the road toward our vehicle. As it got nearer, I got nervouser (new word?). Just in front of the car, it suddenly climbed higher in the air, then split into 2 lights and vanished over the top of the car. Just for the record, there were 4 witnesses and NO! we had not been drinking! There used to be a family-owned museum out there, but it is closed. The AC of E never could explain it, and it remains a mystery. Because of increased development and new roads it is hard to find the original location today.THE HORNET SPOOK LIGHT

Let's hear the haunted house stories!

First: jdslady: of course, more...please narrate an incident...go go go..

Second: firebll31: this is exactly what I had read. I would love to have experienced this phenomena as you have.

I have had a similar 'sighting', many years ago, but will save that for later. Meanwhile, more please jdslady.....

Okay, let me think...I have a little santa that stands about 3ft tall, one night when our daughter and gson were living with us (his bedroom was the back one on the left) I looked down the hallway and saw a small child walk from his bedroom into our bedroom. Asked daughter "what's he doing outta bed", went back to check and he was SOUND ASLEEP and had not moved.
That's how we found out about the little one we have running around amusing us http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/jdslady/ghost-1.gif (broken link)
