The Carthage Maple Leaf Festival is coming up fast! As usual, the week prior to the parade will be full of activities-beverage tastings, baby show, music, bike ride, pageants, 5k run. The parade will be Oct 17. There will be a pancake feed, petting zoo, antique car and tractor show, Celtic wine festival, car show, marching band competition, craft booth and food vendors. The highlight of the day is the 2-hour parade which starts at 9 am. It is always a good time if the weather cooperates, and with the cool temps this year the fall colors should be spectacular. Come on out and enjoy the biggest small town festival around!

It's only a couple hour drive from KC. Surely you can get away for one Saturday?! Approx. 30,000 people come out for the largest parade in the 4-state area.

Awww, judging from the article I've linked to below, it looks like the balloons might not make it off the ground, Voyager! If not, I hope the rest of the festival went well. (I assume you won't be reading this till it's over.)
New Haven Leader
I checked out the weather and it says it's mostly cloudy right now but it looks like you're about to catch a few small but potentially gnarly storms in just a bit. I HATE it when that happens! Here's a link, if anyone's interested: Current St. Louis NEXRAD Radar Map : Weather Underground
Anyway, here's a cool link to the cluster balloon guy's website. What a trip!

I love this thread and am so happy you're keeping it going, Voyager! Even though I rarely come here to visit these days, when I do, this is a great thread to find!!! Thanks!

Carthage Maple Leaf Festival THIS SATURDAY! Budweiser Clydesdales will be in the parade once again, plus huge car show and plenty of food and activities on the Square and around town after the parade. And the marching band competition at the Middle School! Don't miss out on the biggest fall celebration in the 4-State area. The trees are coloring up nicely!
